Farge

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Farge is a small port on the Weser River in Bremen. It is part of Bremen-Blumenthal, which is one of the districts of the City of Bremen.

[edit] History

During World War II Farge was the site of an oil-storage depot and the Valentin submarine pens that were attacked by the Royal Air Force on 27 March 1945. At the current stage of construction the pens had a ferrous concrete roof 4.5 metres (15 feet) thick which was penetrated by two Grand Slam bombs.[1]

From 1 July 1943 until 8 April 1945, a subcamp, Number 179 Bremen-Farge,[2] of the Neuengamme concentration camp was located in the town. 2,100 people were imprisoned and used as slave labour at the submarine yard.[3]
