Farah Karimi

Farah Karimi (Born 15 November 1960 Isfahan) is a Persian-Dutch writer, human right activist and politician. Karimi is currently representative of the United Nations in Afghanistan affairs (since November 2006).[1]
Farah Karimi was a member of the Dutch Parliament from GroenLinks till 2006. She was spokesperson on development cooperation, European affairs and foreign affairs.
Before that, from 1979 to 1986, she was a member of the Mojahedin-e Khalgh (MKO),[2] a group considered as terrorist by the European Union (EU) and the United States of America (US). She cut ties with the group in 1986 and she wrote a book later based on her experience in the group.
She has lived in The Netherlands since 1989. Farah Karimi writes in Rooz, a Persian-language online newspaper. She has helped significantly in promoting democracy and dialogue in Iran. Her most notable achievements were in supporting Rooz and Radio Zamaneh.
In 2007 she became director of the Dutch section of Oxfam.[3]
