[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Penang Jewish 1835.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Penang Jewish 1835.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 07:06, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination for Euromalays article

Hello. You may want to have your views regarding the legitimacy of the article heard on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Euromalays instead of just posting them on Talk:Euromalays. Best regards. —Lagalag 10:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, I listed my reasons in the AfD nomination. Thanks. --Chris S. 13:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

For everyone's benefit, can you explain further on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Euromalays what's the difference between Euromalays and other, more well-known terms like serani on ? BTW I'm from Malaysia and of mixed race, but I'd never heard the term Euromalay until today; Wikipedia has a policy against original research which, among other things, means we shouldn't use neologisms as the names of articles; I don't see that the term Euromalay has any scholarly acceptance, which is why I suggest that renaming the article might be the best way to save it from deletion. Cheers. cab 17:15, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I'm sorry for the late reply - been busy recently. Anyway, I've managed to change the Euromalays article to European Malays - understanding that I shouldn't be inventing new words that have no cited sources other than Wikipedia. So, how's my new article going? --Fantastic4boy 07:21, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi cab. Thank you for your comments this matter and for letting me realise that my "Euromalay" article (since that it's neologism) is going against policy since that is it not related to original research and that scholarly unacceptable. I'm not sure whether or not you have received this response, but this was my reply to you regarding Euromalays. As we have discussed earlier on, Serani is a Malay term for Eurasian, in which it refers to people with European and Asian parentage regardless of what the Asian background is. I thank you for your generosity in advising me on such matter and I have made some corrections regarding that article. I have decided moved the article Euromalays to European-Malays, in which it is a term used to qualify both Malay and European characteristics, or should I change to European-Malay ancestry to avoid conflict with Wikipedia policy? What do you think?

Hi there. The text does make sense, besides containing a lot of useful information pertaining to people of mixed Malay and European descent. As for Filipinos being Malay, I’ve lived in the Philippines all my life and yes, ethnic Filipinos in general do consider themselves Malay. Even José Rizal, considered our greatest national hero, was once dubbed the “Pride of the Malay Race”. —Lagalag 12:42, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

No problem. We very much appreciate and value the work you are doing here, especially with regards to Malay-related articles. Keep up the good work and best regards. —Lagalag 07:27, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wilfred Hamilton-Shimmen

A tag has been placed on Wilfred Hamilton-Shimmen, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. MER-C 07:12, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion notice

A tag has been placed on Prisoners rights in Islam, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. If you plan to add more material to the article, I advise you to do so immediately. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Seraphimblade 07:03, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hilaly

Do you have acess to material about Hilaly? I have found a biography but it is not a verifiable, reliable source. http://forums.muslimvillage.net/lofiversion/index.php/t27683.html For this article I need verifiable reputable sources. SmithBlue 05:57, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

I've just found some helpful links that could verify reputable sources. Hope they'd satisfy the resource materials u're looking for:

And to consider that Prophet Muhammad mentioned that “No Arab is superior to a non-Arab and no non-Arab is superior to an Arab. No white man is superior to a black man, and no black man is superior to a white man.” [1], Sheik Hilaly has breached the Islamic ruling by stating that Muslims should have more rights than the Anglo-Saxons in Australia. [2] Remember that Muslims are not only for the Arabs but also for other races. Furthermore, doesn't he realise that there are a number of Anglo-Muslims like Yvonne Ridley and Yusuf Estes (former Christian preacher now a Muslim Chaplain) [3] and that this would certainly offend them?

Anything else that you'd like to know? Please do let me know when you do. --Fantastic4boy 14:21, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Fantastic4boy thanks for the links - I havent got the software for the video and so cant watch it -is it the Egyptian TV interview - I've seen that on www.youtube.com We have the translation in this article already.

Am after reputable sources for the following;

  • Sheikh Tajeddine was born the eldest of eight children.
  • at the age of 17 he then went on to formally study at Al Alazhar University and graduated from there four years later with an International Certificate for Islamic Religion and Arabic Language. The last two years of his education he spent specialising in Shariah Law. After graduation he worked for two years as a judge of Islamic law in the Family Court of Egypt.
  • speaking out against social injustice and the very low standard of living of people in general, he angered the government and was arrested two or three times over a couple of years.
  • In his early thirties Sheikh Tajeddine accepted a position to be an Imam in a mosque in Libya and moved their with his wife and young daughter Shayma.
  • speaking out against the communist Gaddafi regime and it's injustices to the people.
  • 5 years in Libya, he spent the next 3 years between Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, but being mainly based in Lebanon, unfortunately during the peak of the Lebanese civil war.
  • In 1982, after speaking out against a massacre that took place that led to the slaughter of thousands of people, an assassination attempt was made on his life by some unidentified gunmen.
  • In 1983 the Mufti of Lebanon sent Sheikh Tajeddine to Australia to become the Imam of Lakemba Mosque
  • 1983 Sheikh Sheikh Tajeddine left his wife and two daughters behind in Lebanon
  • 1989, was granted his Australian citizenship.
  • instrumental in the establishment of the first Muslims Women's Association in Australia
  • written many books
  • has attendedIslamic conferences through out the Muslim world.

Also would like to find; what sort of Muslim is he? (Shiite?, Sunni?), how was he selected to be the Iman at Lakemba?, what duties does he have at the Lakemba Mosque?, Are there 2 Mosques in Lakemba? Cause there are 2 Imams in Lakemba - see Lakemba Mosque discusion for details. Is this usual? SmithBlue 14:01, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

SmithBlue Interesting information on Hilaly. I'm not sure whether Hilaly is Sunni or Shiite. I'll do more reasearch on the area you want to know about and let you know here if I find any more reliable sources on Sheik Hilaly. --Fantastic4boy 23:39, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Malay people picture

To my knowledge Rasuna Said is a Minangkabau, not a Malay. They are two distinct ethnic groups. (Caniago 12:17, 14 January 2007 (UTC))

I do acknowledge that Rasuna Said is a Minangkabau. However, despite being matrilineal, the Minangkabaus show lots of similarity with the Malays in terms of individual houses in the kampongs, the costumes and music. If I'm not mistaken, the Minangkabaus in Malaysia are accepted as an ethnic Malays since that they practise a culture similar to the Malays. I can't really attach the music and video files here though but I can have a look on the internet for you. --Fantastic4boy 03:43, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry if I haven't made my statements clear to you. Furthermore, I'd like to add on that the article is not only referring to the Malays of eastern Sumatra, Malay peninsula, parts of Borneo and southern Thailand, but basically those who are anthropologically Malays, i.e. related by their language and physique. Filipinos themselves are Austronesians yet a Filipino hero such as Jose Rizal, who is part native of the Philippines, is dubbed as "Pride of the Malay race" (see European Malays) - yet their culture isn't as much related to Malays unlike the Minangkabaus. Thus, I think it'll be alright to state Rasuna Said based on the discussions I've made above.
Please provide citations for this claim and any of the claims made in the Malay article, otherwise the whole Malay article is a total falsehood. I can provide a stack of citations which show that the Malay ethic group is distinct from the Minang ethic group. I suggest you start by looking at the last Indonesian census (for 2000) which lists Malays and Minangkabau as a distinct groups. Next, I suggest you take a look at Encyclopedia Briticanna which also doesn't support any of the claims made in the Malay article. The problem in Malaysia is that the term Malay has become hijacked by politicians. Rather than swallowing their propaganda and regurgitating it on Wikipedia, I suggest you start hitting the books and open your eyes to the truth. (Caniago 08:32, 15 January 2007 (UTC))
I know you that you'd disagree with me and may consider me like a "Malay Supremacist", but I'm not making up my statements on the Minangkabaus being Malays. I'd be gladly to give you the cited sources. I'm not basing my facts on some bias Malaysian politician propaganda stating the validity for a group of people as "Malays" and I'm not regurgitating them as you think I am. The Minangkabau article states that the Minangkabaus are of Malay stock - "The Minang people belong to the Malay stock" [4]. Demographics for Reference.com and Sumatra Infomarmation: "The people are of Malay stock composed of many different tribes, speaking 52 different languages. Most of these groups, however, share many similar traditions and the different tongues are closely related." [5][6] The Acehnese [7] and Bugis [8] are considered Malays due to their relations as part of the Malay stock yet they are still considered as separate ethnic groups. Is there anything else you would like me to find out? I'd be happy to provide you with books on Minangkabau people to see whether they are related to the Malay stock/part of the Malay sub-family if you want. That'll take some time since that I have other work to do for the rest of the week. I'll leave my comments here with the citations of author and the books when I find them. --Fantastic4boy 22:49, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Just to clarify on the Malays article, to my scrutinised observation, the purpose of the article is not to define and explain about ethnic Malays but rather the Malay racial stock consisting of different ethnic groups, in which it includes linguistic relations to each other. --Fantastic4boy 23:35, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Again, you don't seem to understand. When you find a single reliable source (WP:RS) let me know (on my talk page, since I'm not going to be monitoring your talk page). Please don't just quote the rubbish you find on the Internet (including Wikipedia). I'm looking for reliable peer reviewed academic citations. (Caniago 23:57, 15 January 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Rights of prisoners

Islamic jurisprudence might had some rules to deal with them, but to the best of my knowledge, a major source of slaves within the institution of slavery at the advent of Islam were the prisoners of war. The Qur'an rooted this out by legislating that prisoners of war should be freed at all costs, either by accepting ransom or as a favour by not taking any ransom money. No other option was available to the Muslims (kindly see [Qur'an 47:4]). And also there is no punishment in Qur'an or hadith that is related to prinson. Hence, I personally believe that this question is not raised at all. For more information, kindly see "Slavery" in Mizan. Cheers! TruthSpreaderreply 04:35, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] European Malays/Arab Malays

You might want to read my comments at the AfD of these two articles. While I feel that Turkish Malays is indeed not very notable, I feel that the articles of these two topics are notable. To me, I feel that the Weterners feel that they are non-notable because they lacked the understanding of the history of SE Asian history and sociology. Practically, I feel that we should ask the opinions of the Malays and non-Malays of Singapore and Malaysia. Call up the members of Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Singapore and Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Malaysia. Let's access their opinions. Vote your part in the Afd too: [9] [10]. Thanks. Mr Tan 07:11, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I appreciate your comments and thank you for the helpful suggestions, Mr Tan. There are actually small communities such as Turkish Malays, Arab Malays and European Malays (Eurasians with mixed Malay and European descent) but it's difficult to prove their existence . If only I could find more resources that would make the mentioned communities notable to prove at a satisfactory academic level, then I'll. I may need more time for this since that I have uni assignments to finish up this week. I see what I can do. --Fantastic4boy 03:13, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Templete for quran and hadith

I noticed in some of your edits you were quoting the quran and hadith. For future quran and hadith quotations/references, please use the USC-MSA templete as mentionded below. This templete makes a link to the quranic verse or hadith. This makes it easier others to view the verse, since they can view it from the USC-MSA website [11] by just clicking on the link. This website provides an online translation of the quran and hadith. It works like this:

For quranic verse 8:10, enter {{Quran-usc|8|10}}.
This will allow people to just click on the link and view the verse as [Qur'an 8:10].
For hadith quotes, to show Sahih Bukhari 8:73:68, enter {{Bukhari|8|73|68}}. --Sefringle 03:44, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the nomination (also see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on why the topic of the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome: participate in the discussion by editing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Social rights in Islam. [edit] Malays

It would be great if you could devote your time to something productive instead of adding nonsense about Malay populations around the world that has already been discredited. Cape Malays and Sri Lankan Malays are a mixture of ethnic groups - Javanese, etc. (Caniago 09:14, 12 April 2007 (UTC))

But they consider themselves ethnic Malays don't they? To my knowledge, it's through Malay cultural assimilation they've become Malays. So, how am I talking nonsense? --Fantastic4boy 09:16, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
They are called malays in the colonial sense of the word, as in Malay race. There are multiple meanings of the term Malay, so please don't confuse them. (Caniago 09:17, 12 April 2007 (UTC))
Since you are obviously interested in the topic, send me an email and I give you a copy of a couple of academic papers you will find interesting. (Caniago 09:43, 12 April 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Goreng sagu

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Goreng sagu, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Please

Do You really need to find another subject to put the word malay with? Have you edited other areas of wikipedia at all?

Please believe me there will come a time (if it has not already) that experienced long term editors will ask you to STOP creating more X malay, or malay X as it might constitute nuisance editing. Have you prepared for that contigency?

If you havent please consider it now before it becomes an issue and someone actually takes you to task in a lot less civil manner. I am assuming WP:AGF by sending this message, and expect the same in return. Please consider that sufficient enroaching upon what really also exists in the Indonesian national and cultural sphere is enough for some editors to wonder what you will find next that is malay, that is also Indonesian. If you could please plan to move on in some way would be of great benefit for yourself and the wikipedia community.

Please feel free to ask me id anything is not clear - it is assumed that the enthusiasm for malayness can be also transferred to other subjects while you are working on Wikipedia.

Thanks for your contributions - please read and think carefully about this as it might in the end help us all if you understand what wikipedia is WP:NOT and what the limits are . SatuSuro 04:09, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Agreed, further Malay Town smacks of original research. Please only use it to refer to a specific place that both exists and is notable. Do not create concepts that don't exist. Rather than create more obscure "Malay X" articles, why not do some research and improve the many existing articles.
ON a seperate issue, I advise extreme caution that you don't edit without signing in. THe anon IP's you are using from time to time have been involved in some very serious vandalism along racial grounds and that they seem to be Malay. While there is no definite proof that this is you, I note the similar articles and that suspicions can be aroused. Please ensure that you only edit under this user name. Remember, bans on wikipedia apply to people, not accounts, and this account could be included - you don't want to be caught up in that mess. kind regards --Merbabu (talk) 06:41, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Brett Chukerman

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Brett Chukerman, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0152986. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 09:52, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
