Good you figured, but I think I read someplace that archiving discussion pages should be done by cut & paste not move (it's actually here here). But it does not matter much. Renata 19:00, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

I am glad you asked! :) Weird thing. I welcomed you as a clueless newbie so for some reason I feel like I am supposed to be your mentor (even though at that time I was a clueless newbie myself). So don't take the above anywhere near serious. Renata 05:02, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your response! Whenever I have a problem I think about asking you, knowing you'd be happy to help. Usually I figure it out before then, though. :) I hope you had a good V-day! --Fang Aili 16:02, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rfc

Fang,

Within the next 24 hours, I will submit an Rfc against the admins who continuously speedy userboxes without consensus, and whatever else. If there's anything you think should be included on there, please let me know. --D-Day Somebody talk to me. Please somebody! Anybody! 14:51, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userbox

I've only deleted a grand total of two userboxes, but I'm pretty sure I can spot a divisive one when I see one. That box served no purpose other than to incite animosity in the already frequently ugly dispute over userboxes. Surely you can just let this one userbox, which was in bad taste, die without a fuss? I am sure you can't feel that the encyclopedia will in any way suffer by the deletion of that template. Dmcdevit·t 22:57, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey Fang Aili I wish to say thanks for your vote at the Esperanza elections.

I've made my way into the Advisory Committee, so if you ever need any help or have any queries about the stuff we do, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks again, KnowledgeOfSelf 09:54, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flamarande

This unofficial and sneaky redirect/userboxes "burning campaing" is starting to drive me mad. Over-eager "Inquisitors" are deleting/burning all the userboxes they can find, even while the whole matter is still being debated. I am quite undecided about "userboxes about political issues" but it appears to me that the burning campaign is running out of control as even userboxes about books ! are being deleted/burned. I want to oppose this madness, but I don´t know how to make a diffrence. You seem to be a old veteran could you explain me how to do it?

I allready passed the message (see below) to all users who wrote on the Talkpage(s) of Userbox and Userboxes. The deletion of these harmless and usefull redirects was very convinient to this "deletion/burning campaign".

"Look, if you don´t agree with the this unofficial and sneaky redirect/userboxes "burning campaing" then oppose it. Follow the oficial/legal channels and vote "Strong Keep" in Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion. If you are too lazy or too afraid to do anything about it, then don´t complain about it. At least it will be debated and perhaps even defeated.Flamarande 19:42, 3 March 2006 (UTC)"

"If you want oppose the whole "burning campaign" then go to Wikipedia:Userbox policy poll and vote!"

As far as I know, some users started to complain about userboxes, who by the way appear only in the userpages and therefore clearly show that they are a personal view and not Wikipedia stances. Jimbo Wales played the politician and made a statement that: "controversial political userboxes schouldn´t be used in Wikipedia as they would give a wrong impression of Wikipedia" (quoting freely). As far as I know, the policy itself is still being debated, but nevertheless many admistrators/users allready started to delete userboxes in a "userboxes burning campaign" everywhere, whithout following the proper procedure or even listening to users who disagree!

IF Jimbo or the consensus simply had said: "NO USERBOXES OF ANY KIND" or "NO POLITICAL USERBOXES OF ANY KIND" I wouldn´t oppose to this. But there appears to be a unwritten policy of censorship. The controversial userboxes are being deleted while the others are acceptable. This is blatant censorship in my personal opinion. Freedom of Speech and political freedom also means that everybody is free to buy all the books, the Holy Bible, the Koran, the Tora, AND the Communist Manifesto of Karl Marx, Porn, and the Mein Kampf of Adolf Hitler in a bookshoop without any problems.

If Jimbo Walles or the consensus says: "this a encyclopedia and NOT a place where we discuss politics" I won´t oppose to it, but then we also have to delete all the userboxes like "in memorian of 9/11" and "I support the troops". Then we have to delete ALL of them. It is the same with the bookshops and books: Nobody can force all the booksops to sell all the books (the idea of going into a childrens library and ordering the Communist Manifestos is funny) but it also means that a library can sell all political books even those we don´t like and disagree.

Long time ago, I saw a movie about the attempt of the National Socialist Party of America to march into Stokie where the matter went as far to a court (I don´t remember which one) it was "one step" before the Supreme Court. The judges wrote: "Freedom of Speech not only means that we have the freedom to say what we like to hear. It also means that other people have the liberty to say things we hate." (quoting freely from memory , and I saw the movie a long time ago). Flamarande 20:31, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Please don't listen to Flamarande (I am not trying to further a "burning campaing", I find the comparisons to the inquisition insluting and, in general, I find vote solicitation distatesful). He is creating a ruckus over nothing. As per your request, I explained my position in greater detail at WP:RfD. Feel free to ask more questions if you so desire. [edit] userbox redirects (cross-namespace)

I have changed all links as requested at WP:BR, except for those contained in comments regarding the redirects themselves (rather than userboxes in general). It seems quite likely that these redirects will be deleted, but this will prevent a proliferation of red links at such time, provided nobody is ignorant enough to revert the bot's edits and howl "youre [sic] not allowed to edit my userpage/babelbox/talk archive/whatever", which is unfortunately known to happen. — Mar. 4, '06 [00:49] <freakofnurxture|talk>

Thank you for your support in my request for adminship. I'm delighted that the RfA succeeded with a final consensus of 52/17/7, and receiving comments including having 'excellent potential to become a great moderator', and I am now an administrator. [edit] Rancho San Joaquin Middle School

What is non-encyclopediac about listing RSJ's courses. It should help someone who wants to enroll there

Hey! Right straight to business! Deleting it wasn't a bad thing, but that comes down to the differing opinions, you think it is non-encyclopedic, while the other user disagrees. "It should help someone who wants to enroll there", with regards to that comment, that is definitely not the right way for the anon to argue his case. Wikipedia is not here to help someone know what kind of school they are enrolling in. Schools have pamphlets and many other ways to let potential students know what kind of school they are joining. So I would tell the anon that. Also since it is not vandalism you were removing, I would post your reasoning on the articles talk page, and if no one objects I would remove the content that you disagree with. Articles about schools are very hard to judge, so you might want to ask someone else if this does not prove to be very helpful. Basically explain to the anon why his argument is not valid, and in the mean time keep it deleted. If he comes up with a valid reason why it should be re-inserted than of course re-insert it! Either way cheers. KnowledgeOfSelf 16:09, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

I've been trying to make sense of what's going on. (I took a screenshot of my userboxes in case everything goes you-know-where in a handbasket.) How do I migrate userbox templates to my user space? Thanks for the advice - Her Pegship 20:30, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scriptol

Thanks for your vote at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Scriptol. However, I want to inform you that Google returns much less votes than you claim. If you ask Google for more results on the next pages, you will eventually see a message that there are only 212 unique hits. Cheers, —Ruud 16:54, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

There are a number of factors. I've never heard of this programming language (I won't claim that I've heard of every notable language, though ;). Both the article, the WikiBook and the spamming are written and done by anomyous users, but the IP addresses are all from CEGETEL, a Frech ISP. The website is small and amateurish. The SourceForge project only has one developer and no forum activity. The websites Google finds are downloads sites which accept pretty much anything you give them and make perfect places to "promote" your software. I couldn't find any website that indicates this language is actually used. —Ruud 17:18, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More about Scriptol

Just some comments. Cegetel has more than 1000000 customers.

Scriptol is a new language and the Scriptol compiler produces binary executables (or PHP sources). Comparing the number of open source projects is not significant because programs in interpreted languages are all open source, of course.
ABAP, that is considered to be a major P.L (see the template) and here since 1980, has no open source project at all.
Please take just a moment to look at the manual and judge the language after its features.

There are more than 10000 download of the Scriptol compiler at Simtel, and this is not the major repository. Click here and search for Scriptol.

It appears this is just one opponent to Scriptol, that attemps to convince all others to vote against it.
It appears also this settle was originated by a conflict of contributors about the legacy programming languages in the template.

[edit] Don't accuse

Please, don't accuse without proof.

Look at my user page for comparison of languages on Wikipedia, I believe this is the definitive argument if we want to be honest.

Splang 07:19, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks and bye

I believe I have lead someone to register and vote, and this is not permitted by the policy.

I doubt the policy permits an admin to influence the vote of each contributor by special reply to its vote or comment with false arguments, but this has no more importance.

I suddenly realized I have spend a lot of time here with no profit, rather than spend it in my work with profit and choosen to delete myself.

Sure Ruud will prefer to use Cesil, if he can find a compiler or most of other languages in the Alphabetical_list_of_programming_languages that are all notable.

This is enough now, thanks to your interest in the dispute, you will be no longer disturbed.

[edit] Images

I am not really aware of any such policies (quick scan on Wikipedia:Images did not provide any answers), but my gut feeling is that it should not be here. First, copyrights, second, POV and not notable propaganda (eg Uncle Sam wants you is a notable/historic propagand), third quality. I suggest listing it for deletion and see what happens. Also, Image:Zaxok-Delal.jpg, doesn't it look weird? Renata 20:18, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Oh, btw, I can bet my guts that the pic of the guy is not actually free. So it would be interesting... Say I take a (c) image and put it in the middle of my own work (which is free).
