Starlight, 200 meters down? I don't think so... Stan 23:40, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

No, and I don't think that's what I wrote: I was attempting to give a mini-explanation of vertical daily migration as is practiced by many other mesopelagic fish, and the 200 metre figure is after the qualifier "most commonly found at... " at the beginning of the paragraph (and that info is based on trawls, so we can't really say they're completely confined to that range). So I meant they may go shallower than even this at night, like some myctophids do. Does that make sense, or should I try to reword it? (Or you may, of course. I'll admit my prose is not the most eloquent.) -- Hadal 01:45, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
The "starlight" bit seemed the shakiest - I'd just never heard that, although presumably it's testable by comparing hunting performance on overcast vs clear nights. I think I see that you're carefully avoiding stating anything that is not known to be true, but the juxtaposition seems to imply more - a hazard of brevity. :-) Stan 04:11, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)
