[edit] English

Is Fanagalo based on English or not? --Error 17:00, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • its word order is, but the vocab is mostly Zulu Humansdorpie 12:49, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Afrikaans

I have been trying to find a fanagalo word taken from Afrikaans, as the description says it a pidgin based on the Zulu, English, and Afrikaans languages. Any comments? Mohau

[edit] Prestige

I read that Fanagalo was despised by black nationalists as sort of a slave language, lacking the prestige of the original black and white languages. --Error 17:00, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • That sounds about right Humansdorpie 12:49, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
I thought it was because it was used mainly for giving orders.
Any chance of someone submitting a Fanagalo/Chilaplapa dictionary?

[edit] Merge

I have merged together Fanakalo and Fanagalo in one article and redirected from Fanakalo Humansdorpie 12:49, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

It seems that Fanagolo was another independent formation. I've redirected it to here since it did not contain information this article didn't have already. — mark 05:19, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pidgin or creole?

Is Fanagalo still a pidgin, or has it become a creole language?

  • To the best of my knowledge there are no speakers of Fanagalo as a first language - it is always a learned pidgin. Humansdorpie 14:22, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
