From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Frédéric Chopin's Fantasie in F minor, Op. 49, was composed in 1841, when he was 31 years old.
[edit] Music Form
The masterpiece seems to be extra-formed sonata, not in strict sonata form but in Chopin's advanced and independent, and more loosely based, form.
The composer's naming Fantaisie is often described as follows, "Chopin hesitated to reveal the work as a piano sonata. The serious thinking made him choose the current title."
Franz Liszt is quoted as saying, "The Fantaisie is describing the dispute between Chopin and George Sand".
