[edit] Category is misnamed

The merger was a good idea, but the wrong title was retained. "Fantasy novels by series" is, obviously, a good name for a category containing novels. "Series of fantasy novels" is, obviously, a good name for a category containing series. This category is misnamed. Wareh 21:00, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Two points:
  1. The use of the word "by" is standard in Wikipedia categories. See e.g. Category:People by occupation and nationality.
  2. There used to be separate categories for articles on the series, and for sub-categories containing articles on the novels for each series. There was a consensus at WP:CFD to merge them here.

I know a proper procedure was followed, but the result is still questionable. Your example, Category:People by occupation and nationality, contains categories containing articles about people. But this category contains articles on series, not novels. So it actually supports my claim. The important point is that the entire book-series category structure is a mess. Before people can bring all the genre-series under some kind of uniform system, their categories have to be rationally named. I'd just like to create a record of the issue here, for when the disorder is finally tackled. Wareh 17:07, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
