- STATVS here is not the perfect passive participle of statuo, but rather the noun status, -ūs "status, state of being." The status of a res publica frequently means its "constitution." So the intended meaning is "CONSTITUTION OF THE EUROPEAN REPUBLIC" (or perhaps "EUROPEAN STATE") See Talk:European Constitution#Latin inscription for some tiresome debate on this matter ;) --Iustinus 22:19, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

Tracking down the hi-res version proved useful. Some of the ones I've filled in are pretty tentative. Half of them look exactly the same! Trilobite (Talk) 04:57, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC) Also check the Signatories to the Treaty for help. They do look the same, some are hard to match.
