Family Classics

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Family Classics was a Chicago television series which began in 1962 when Frazier Thomas decided to add another program to his schedule at WGN-TV. It was titled Family Classics with Frazier Thomas. Thomas not only hosted classic film, but he also personally selected titles and edited them to conform to the framework of good taste for the entire family to see. Scenes with excessive violence or obscenity were often deleted from the broadcast. After Thomas' death in 1985, Roy Leonard took over the program. The series continued until its cancellation in 2000. Family Classics props are in exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications.

[edit] List of titles

Note: This list is likely incomplete. At least one film is missing, for example, there was a Russian folk tale of 2 sisters somewhat similar to Cinderella, which takes place largely in the forest and in deep snow.
