False-Hearted Judges is the fourth season finale episode of the television series Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

[edit] Plot summary

In this episode, Detectives Goren and Eames investigate the murder of a prominent New York family court judge, whose entire family was attacked.

At first, Goren and Eames discover that the victim had recently withdrawn privileges from an imprisoned racist group, but their investigation widens when a West Coast appellate court judge is later murdered in similar circumstances. Interestingly, this judge had reinstated a manslaughter charge against a man who helped his terminally-ill friend commit suicide.

After investigating the case more thoroughly, the detectives realise that their first set of suspects was simply a smokescreen, and there is a far more insidious threat. Their investigation leads them to an errant, embittered father with controversial child custody decisions who might be using his teenaged son to help him commit his crimes.

As they probe further and deeper into the case, Goren and Eames sift through the likely suspects until they pick up a thread to a very unlikely one.
