Fallbrook Center
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fallbrook Center is a shopping mall located on Fallbrook Avenue between Victory Boulevard and Van Owen Boulevard in West Hills, Los Angeles, California. Fallbrook Center is a 75-acre, one million square foot, open-air shopping center with retailers including Wal-Mart, Ralph's, Trader Joe's, Mervyn's, Kohl's, Home Depot, Target, Ross, [24 Hour Fitness]], Michael's Arts & Crafts, Designer Shoe Warehouse, Linens 'n Things and Petco. Originally an outdoor mall opening in 1964 or 1965, the original tenants included a True Value Hardware store called "Rea's Hardware", a Woolworth's store, and a bakery called Plaza Bakery West, famous for their butter-creme frosted birthday cakes and elaborate decorations. The original mall had a large sign featuring a fountain-shaped collection of illuminated balls. The property was enclosed in the late 1980's and renamed Fallbrook Mall. By the late 1990s, the mall had many empty spaces. The ownership of the mall changed hands, and at one point there were large advertising banners in the mall itself shouting "BUY THIS MALL." In 2001 the mall closed down and the interior mall portion was demolished. It was turned into an open-air shopping center.
