Coordinates: 26°32′N 89°12′E / 26.53, 89.2 Falakata is a census town and police station of Alipurduar subdivision [1] in Jalpaiguri district in the state of West Bengal, India.

The Leopard's Call: An Anglo-Indian Love Story (ISBN 1-4208-2823-1)describes life at the town of Falakata on the grasslands in Jalpaiguri District, West Bengal, India, just down from Bhutan. The bird and jungle life around this small town next to the Torsa River and the Jaldhapara Wildlife Sanctuary form the background of the story in the founding and growth of the Raymond Memorial School as seen through the lives of a young Anglo-Indian couple who teach at this agriculture high school at Falakata.

As of 2001 India census[3], Falakata had a population of 18,801. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Falakata has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 71%. In Falakata, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

It is a small town with many multipurpose project running parallel with the governments mission of growth. It has the largest private multipurpose cold storage popularly called as Raichanga cold storage in the district.
