"Fake It" is the first single from Seether's album Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces. The single was released in an edited format on August 28, 2007; however, due to popular demand, the full uncensored album version of the track was released September 17, 2007. The original version of the song was first recorded in Shaun's bedroom and was an iTunes album-only song demo under the name "Quirk," included with pre-orders of Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces.

The album's first track "Like Suicide" was originally meant to be the first single released but was deemed inappropriate due to Shaun Morgan's brother's death so "Fake It" was released instead, which proved to be the right decision as it quickly rose to number one on both the modern and mainstream rock charts. It also reached number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100, the second highest of their singles after "Broken", which reached number 20.

[edit] Music video

The music video which was directed by Tony Petrossian debuted on Seether's website as part of a "worldwide fan premiere" on October 23rd, 2007, the same day the album was released. You can view the video here.

This was the first music video since the Disclaimer days to not feature recently departed guitarist Pat Callahan.

[edit] Use in other media

"Fake It" was announced to be the official theme song of the 2008 WWE No Way Out pay-per-view event that took place on February 17th in Las Vegas, Nevada.[1] It also appears on the soundtrack in the video game Burnout Paradise.

[edit] Chart positions

The song spent six consecutive weeks at number two on the U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks but eventually managed to overcome the massive hit by Foo Fighters, "The Pretender", which had reigned for a record 18 weeks, knocking it off the top spot. Ironically "Fake It" was succeeded by another Foo Fighters single "Long Road to Ruin."
