Faith Methodist Church
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Faith Methodist Church is a Methodist Christian church, affiliated with the Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC). It is located at 400 Commonwealth Drive in the island nation of Singapore. It is 1 of the 43 Methodist churches located in Singapore. It is now currently lead by Reverend Kow Shih Ming who took over as Pastor in charge in 2001. An average of about 1600 people come for its Sunday services at 400 Commonwealth Drive and at ACJC.
[edit] History
In 1964, Faith Methodist Church had its humble beginnings as a Methodist Chapel to serve the then rapidly developing satellite town of Queenstown.
Before the buildings were completed, worship services were conducted in the open air and later a temporary shed was erected for the purpose.
In 1967, the Church building at 400 Commonwealth Drive was completed and named as 'Faith Methodist Church' in honour of God's faith in the entire project and in memory of Faith Goh, the only daughter of Dr and Mrs Goh Kok Kee, who were gracious donors of the Church Building Fund.
Through God's faithfulness, Faith's membership grew tremendously. As the church facilities were inadequate to meet the needs of its worshippers it was decided to redevelop the land to maximize its use. In 2002, the church building was demolished and redevelopment started.
Today, after almost two full years of redevelopment, this $12 million church building is finally ready. It houses a 900-seat sanctuary, 700-seat worship hall, two levels of parking, as well as kindergarten and elderly care services, and a Columbarium. In addition, our church facility also provides better wheelchair accessibility to users.
Besides fulfilling its role to bring the Gospel to the Queenstown neighbourhood and beyond, we envisage the new building to be a focal point for interaction and fellowship, a place where people can find love, acceptance and a new meaning in life.
[edit] Services
Faith Methodist Church holds a number of services at various timings for different age groups.
The Traditional Worship Service encompasses a more traditional form of service, an 'organ only' worship with varying sermon messages.
The TackleBox (Youth Service) is the latest addition to the church's collection of services. It is the church's very own youth service, run by youths for the youths.
Praise@AC is similar to many of todays contemporary services aside from the fact that it starts with the sermon and ends with the praise and worship. It is also an offsite service held in ACJC.
The Contemporary Worship Service features contemporary gospel music and sermon messages relevant to the young adults and middle aged people.
