[edit] Geography

The city is located in the crossing between the two railways between Ludvika-Västerås and Avesta (Krylbo)-Örebro, in the heart of the historic Bergslagen region rich in copper and iron ore. There has been mining activity in the Fagersta area since the 15th century but it wasn't organized until the 17th century and wasn't made a corporation until 1873, when Fagersta Bruks AB was founded.

[edit] History

Fagersta was made a city in 1944 when the industrial hot spot of Fagersta merged with its service oriented neighbour Västanfors. It is now the seat of Fagersta Municipality.

[edit] The Hives

The Hives are a rock band from Fagersta that first rose to prominence in the early 2000s as a leading group of the garage rock revival. Their breakthrough came with the release of the "best-of" compilation Your New Favourite Band, featuring their most commercially successful song, "Hate to Say I Told You So". The band produces punk-influenced garage rock songs and wear matching black and white suits. In their album "Tyrannosaurus Hives" released in 2004, and "Tussles in Brussles", a live concert DVD with a documentary about the band, it explains their rise to fame. With the release of "The Black and White Album" in 2007, they reached worldwide fame with songs such as "Tick Tick Boom" that have been made into many commercials, television shows and movies. They are currently touring across the world, but are taking a short break until the middle of May 2008.

[edit] Industry

Today's industry is focused on hard metal tools (Seco Tools AB and Atlas Copco Secoroc AB) and stainless steel products (Fagersta Stainless AB and OUTOKUMPU Stainless Tubular Products AB).
