Faded Love is the fifth book in the Hank the Cowdog series of children's novels by John R. Erickson. It is preceded by Murder in the Middle Pasture and followed by Let Sleeping Dogs Lie.
Like almost all the Hank the Cowdog books, this one begins with Hank saying, "It's me again, Hank the Cowdog.."
The characters are: Hank the Cowdog, Drover, Pete the Barncat, High Loper, Sally May, Beulah the collie, and a dog called Miss Scamper.
[edit] Plot
The story begins with Hank being tricked by Pete the barncat, swatted by Sally May, and duped by Drover. So Hank sets off to find his true love, Beulah the collie. Drover also goes, saying that her true love is there too (Drover thought his true love was Beulah too, which caused an argument between Hank and Drover). They then have to go against a cattle rustler (well... at least Hank thinks it's a cattle rustler) named Baxter (who was later mentioned in HTC #10 Every Dog has his Day) who is the owner of Miss Scamper (who was also in #10). Then Rip and Snort, two stupid coyote brothers, who capture them in the woods. Drover disappears, leaving Hank with the two cannibals. Hank then again escapes and finds Beulah's ranch (with DRover turning up) and Hank tries to talk Beulah out of liking Plato, a bird dog. He fails and thinks he hates her. Then Baxter and Miss Scamper turn up and Hank secretly gets into the back of the truck and accidentally barks, which Baxter hears, and throws Hank out of the truck. The story ends there.
