From Wikipedia, the website that never sleeps.

Lately, Face has gotten severely addicted to Wikipedia, and he tries to stay away from editing to focus on more important things in life. As a result, he may not respond swiftly to messages, and may not finish certain jobs. But who knows if he can resist the temptation...

Welcome to my talk page! Feel free to leave me a message.

I do not have any archives yet, but all posts concerning the rationales, orphanage, deletion or other taggings of the images I uploaded are kept at User_talk:Face/Images.

Please use edit summaries. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 16:31, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

I assume you refer to this minor edit (one of my many unfortunately) in which I moved the Poképlane image a bit? I did this because there was a big white space between the See also header and the table with links beneath it, which was caused by that image. So, I put it a bit higher. I don't understand why you reverted it. -- Face 20:18, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I moved the plane back because it's a Japanese plane. I didn't think it was too good to put a picture of a Japanese plane in the section complaining about how things have been Americanized. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 17:14, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Does it matter really? That empty space there just looks ugly. Well, then maybe I can put the image at the Cultural influence? -- Face 19:31, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
It's best where it is for the now. Ask about it on the talkpage. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:05, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Lisa Trevor

Oh, sorry, I guess I got a a little carried away when I was trying to fix the fiction as fact errors. (See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction)). If I forgot something, please feel free to re-add it. I wasn't sure about the exact details of the experiments and Lisa's mothers, as the game never really states the details, and I'm afraid other RE Wikipedians will get angry if I added false or incorrect details. :-p. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  16:34, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I have restored some of the original information, and removed a little of your edits. But overall, I tried to keep the fact/fiction division you aimed at. - Face 18:34, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Looks good, I'll add some more tweaks to fix the paragraph structure and tone later this week.--  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  01:41, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Isit love100

It's actually common practice to go right to an indef block on accounts that are used only for vandalism. This account had made around twenty edits on three different days, all of which were blatant vandalism. A series of progressively less gentle warnings and short blocks are more appropriate with newbie tests, exploring users, or constructive contributors who don't understand or follow policy, but this user was clearly here specifically to vandalize. -- Vary | Talk 22:08, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] O.O

Hello :)

Actually there is nothing wrong with the bot, and it didn't do anything that wasn't expected..the O.O was already in the article..if you take a closer look the left side of the diff, you will find it near the hebrew version "he:title]] O.O"..the bot standardizes the interwiki..so it moved the O.O up and away from the interwiki links..and you noticed there..just take a closer look :)--Alnokta 17:41, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] babies w/ barnstars

Saw your comment in my talk page. I didn't even know there were such things as barnstars before the one I got showed up. :) I'm still a bit confused by the whole wikipedia community but trying to figure things out. For instance, is it appropriate for me to respond to you over here, or should I respond to you on my own talk page? Gah! New social codes! I just hope not to blunder too badly while learning. Moonriddengirl 13:03, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Haha, yeah, I know what you mean. I've been a member for about a year and a half, and even now, I'm still discovering new things. For example, I only recently found out that I'm apparently a WikiFairy. And two weeks ago, I asked on the help desk if there is something like a userbox that automatically generates your number of edits. When I saw the answers, I realised what a noobish question I had actually asked. Anyway, I do indeed think that most people consider it appropriate if you respond on their talk page instead on your own. I always post my answer on both though, so that other users can easily follow our conversation ;-). Cheers, Face 14:33, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
I ran off to look for your question and responses to see why it was noobish (since it sounds like a good question to me!), but I guess they don't keep them around that long. In any event, I couldn't find it. What did they say? Moonriddengirl 15:19, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
I wikilinked the word "asked" in my response. And I think it was noobish because I could as well have searched for it on Google. Also, I knew that a COUNT query is a heavy task for the database. I just didn't realised it at that point. It wouldn't be very efficient for Wikipedia if everyone would use a template which counts all your edits everytime you load the page. - Face 16:54, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
LOL! Talk about noob questions: I didn't even notice the link. Thanks. That explanation makes sense. Moonriddengirl 17:08, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Welcome! / Usha

Hi,

Thanks for your response. Really appreciate your help.

Usha is a very well known and household name in South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The Telugu film industry is the second biggest film production unit after Bollywood. Usha is very popular singer who sang close to 400+ songs and is still going strong. Per various polls and surveys by the media, she is regarded as one of the top 2 film singers for Telugu films in the past decade.

Per your advice, I have gone through the Wikipedia:Notability (music) and she seems to meet most of the criteria although she is yet to gain an international acclaim like Grammy award etc. Albeit she has performed across various countries like USA, UK, Singapore, Dubai and Kuwait for the Indian audience...

Once the content has been finalized and people are able to access the link the document - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singer_usha

What are the next steps from my side? Would it be reviewed by someone from wikipedia? Devarakonda (talk) 15:51, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi! Thank you for your message, and sorry for my slow reaction. I was busy yesterday doing homework. Anyway, I saw you already asked some other wikipedians at the helpdesk, and I hope your remaining questions have been answered. User:Anakin101 also mentioned two good points I failed to notice. First, the article had no categorizations, so I've have added one: Category:Telugu playback singers. I'm sure there are more categories in which Usha fits. Second, Anakin noted that Usha's website calls her "Singer Usha". If this is her usual name, then maybe the page should be retitled to that. I do not believe that this is really how she wants to be called however...
If you are interested in further developing the article, you might want to take a look at other articles. One particularly well-developed text for example is the one about Ilaiyaraaja, an Indian film composer and playback singer. Cheers, Face 12:55, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pokémon logo

Sorry for bumping your old logo. Thanks for fixing up the FUR ;)

  • I sort of made it myself. I'll fix up the FUR again to make the source more clear. I searched and searched on google and finally came across that PDF file.
  • Then, to answer your second question, I went into Adobe Illustrator CS3 and extracted the logo. The logo was comprised of a bunch of clipping masks and compound paths that had to be converted layer by layer, which took me about an hour. I'm relatively new to Illustrator and it probably shouldn't have taken my that long :P. I also embellished a little and added radial gradients (if you look at the PDF, the logo is made up of all solid colours. I made the gradients from scratch).
  • Shrink the image? Will do.

Tkgd2007 (talk) 21:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the quick reply. It took me a few minutes to understand why you needed the logo to be in a pdf file however. Until I noticed that the logo in the document is a svg. Apparently the image is automaticaly converted into this when added to a pdf (just like in Flash). I do wonder though: couldn't you convert a logo to vector graphics yourself? It would have saved you the time you spend on finding a pdf :p. Cheers, Face 20:04, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
No problem! Technically I could either use Adobe Illustrator's trace feature to auto-trace the logo, or redraw the logo from scratch. Both of these methods would be inaccurate, and wouldn't properly represent the logo. I don't think that anyone would care too much if it was a trace, but people might complain if I didn't extract the logo from an accurate source. Hopefully this clears it up... cheers!Tkgd2007 (talk) 03:10, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, the creators of that Pokémon Learning League (great project btw, I did the trial lesson) must have had official permission to use the characters, logo and trademarks, so it should indeed be a reliable source. Companies, and especially multinationals like Nintendo, often handle strict policies regarding the use and appearance of their logos. This is also the reason why I asked you to shrink the default size to that of the png image, because I knew that the png came from an official website. I've compared your svg to the logo on pokemon.com, and they are approximately of the same size. Thanks again and cheers, Face 10:44, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I went to restore that page, and actually did so, when I realized that it was entirely necessary and should've been deleted for other reasons. Thanks for the reply. To answer your question: if a user has received sufficient warnings and a final warning, and if you're intention is to protect the encyclopedia (and/or certain users), then it is certainly not a bad practice to request a block. Be it via WP:AIV or a specific admin. But I just wanted to say that WP:AIV is the prefered way. Keep vandal-hunting because you're help is appreciated! Cheers, Face 20:09, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pikachu

Hey! I see what you mean about the quality but I don't think it's because you did anything wrong in the conversion process. The problem looks like the stroke (or outline) is either:

  • too thin
  • too dark

You could either make the outline around Pikachu thicker, or change the colour from black to something like a yellowish-brown which should soften the aliasing-effect dramatically. I tried making the stroke thicker but you can revert it if you don't think it looks good. Hope this helps! -- Tkgd2007 (talk) 19:35, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm truly sorry, but I don't think it works. I have reverted it. Thanks for your help anyway. I've taken this to the graphic lab. Perhaps they can help. Cheers, Face 21:24, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
That's alright, but I doubt the graphics lab will be able to do much more than I did. The reason it probably looked so good on the Brands of the World site is because it was probably rendered at a high resolution, rasterized (converted from vector to bitmap) and then shrunk down, hence the lines looking nice and clean. Unless the graphics lab creates a PNG version (likely defeating the entire purpose of this whole charade), I really, really doubt there is anything else that they can do to fix it. The lines are just too thin. But hopefully I'll be wrong =P hahaha. If you ever want anything else done, feel free to give me a shout! Thanks -- Tkgd2007 (talk) 21:39, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Im sure its very obvious that the game is a remake, however it has not been confirmed by nintendo. Therefore, it is speculative, and should not be included. [edit] Re: Serebii

Face wrote: "Hi Wikipedian06! I'm surprised that you don't want Serebii.net to be used in the Pokémon Platinum article. I see nothing wrong with using it to confirm that nintendo.co.jp announced the game on May 15. It is a fan site yes, but a good one, updated almost daily. No, I'm not in any way connected with that site, in case you think that. I just think that the date on which the game was first officially confirmed is notable enough to be mentioned (and sourced). Cheers, Face 12:49, 17 May 2008 (UTC)"

Here are my concerns:

  • WP editors have come to a consensus multiple times in the past that Serebii does not meet WP:RS (not necessarily for this particular instance, but in general.) Look around the talk pages of prominent Pokemon-related articles and you'll often see disputes involving Serebii come up again and again.
  • I feel that announcement dates are trivial when you have actual release dates. Most game articles don't mention announcement dates, unless it's Duke Nukem Forever.
  • The CoroCoro scan posted on Serebii does not fall under WP:FAIRUSE and hence cannot be used here.
  • Personally, I see little need to advertise a fansite for a single fact that could be considered as trivia (instead, I think that fansites should be used as a last resort for relevant, high-importance information that's not available on official websites, and only when editors have come to a consensus that fansites in question fulfill the requirements of WP:RS)

[edit] RE: RE: IP to block

Face, thank's for the specific attention. I know I'm slow to pick up the more advanced features in Wikipedia and I appreciate the help. I'll respond to your post in order:

- Why does anyone want to ever search anything? There is so much info at the special pages, and I'm unfamiliar with it's organization. I'd like to type in a phrase that should be somewhere in the special pages, and jump right to the applicable section of the appropriate page. For instance, I'm unfamiliar with the Wiki formating markup, and didn't know how to do an unordered list (to use the HTML term), so I resorted to dashes for this list. I tried doing the search like you said (with the checkboxes) (I'd never really paid any attention to them before). I think I want to search the Help and Help Talk pages (because what I want is in Help:Special Pages right?), but I never got it to work right. I got linked directly to the article (Unordered list) every time.
- I appreciate your attention to the IP address and edit that I pointed out, but I basically already felt all the same things about it that you pointed out (including letting someone more experienced than I check the edit's veracity).
- Thanks for the tip on the warning rule, and the AIV link. I'm slowly but surely absorbing the ways of the Wiki.

Feel free to reply in the same post on my talk. (Then we avoid the RE:RE:RE: loop. Yay!) :-D Yoda of Borg (talk) 07:39, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment. You can create an unordered list by using stars (*). Example:

  • foo
  • bar
    • foobar
      • x
      • y

Ordered lists are also available.
I know that certain things on WP might indeed be a bit difficult to find out. For example, it took me a year to discover that it was possible to create a wikilink to another wiki (like this). Another hint: google Wikipedia: it works better then standard searching in some situations. Ask me if you have another question. Cheers, Face 19:07, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Usurpation of the name Face

Yep, I know this is late. For more then two years, I thought it wasn't possible to rename to a user which already exists, but last week, I happened to discover that it was possible. Oh well, beter late than never, so they say. I've always called myself Face, both in my signatures and my userpages, but it's official from now on: I've had the name Face usurped. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Pikachu.svg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Pikachu.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Coatrack

Oh, it's one those subtle language things (sorry, I didn't realise English wasn't your first language - which makes this a very fair question). There's a historical linguistic drift toward connecting such terms: "coat rack" or "coat-rack" -> "coatrack". I'm old enough - 50+ - to find "coat-rack" looks and feels right. But I appreciate it has moved on. Gordonofcartoon (talk) 23:30, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
