Faculty of General Dental Practice

Formed in 1992 as academic home for general dental practitioners.
Based at the Royal College of Surgeons of England
The faculty is involved in aspects of dental care in general practice and primary dental care centres in general, it holds courses for training and continuous development of dentist and dental professionals
In 2006 an agreement to merge the faculty with the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the same college was agreed by the councils of both faculties , but when the proposal was put to the members and fellows it was rejected.
Many standards in dentistry are set by Faculty publications such as Selection Criteria in Dental Radiography.
