Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (in Portuguese: Faculdade de Direito da Universidade São Paulo, also known as Faculdade de Direito do Largo de São Francisco) is an institution of higher education and research in the field of Law located in São Paulo, Brazil. It joined the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1934, when the latter was established.

[edit] History

Claimed to be the oldest establishment of higher education in Brazil, the Faculty of Law of USP (USP School of Law) was created together with the Faculty of Law of Olinda (later moved and renamed Faculty of Law of Recife), by the imperial law of August 11th, 1827. As it was founded few years after the proclamation of the Independence of Brazil, it was essential for the administration of the Brazilian Empire, having formed most of those who would later become the class of public administrators in Brazil.
