"Fabulous" is Sheena Easton 15th album from Universal International UK. The disc was released on November 13th of 2000. The disc recorded in London was inspired by "Tony Swain" an A&R man for Universal records to record a disco classic anthems album with a more contemporary sound. The producers for the project are Ian Masterson and Terry Ronald both of whom have produced many US/UK artists songs for the dance music genre.
The song selections where hand picked by Sheena and Tony and the tongue and cheek title is a result of jokes made during the vocal recording about her fabulous vocals and thus became the title. The first single released was a remake of the UK disco classic "Giving Up Giving In" UK#54, Japan Radio Chart #2, and Australia single chart #78 originally sung by "The Three Degrees" from 1978.
The single was released in November 27th 2000 and a video was released to promote the single that is considered totally outrageous and over the top that caused jaws to drop and eyes to pop. A second single was released in 2001 a cover of "Donna Summer" "Love is in Control" with an accompanying video that was shot from footage of Sheena's album launch concert at G-A-Y nightclub at the Astoria in London.
In Japan "Fabulous" was released in February 2001 and the first single released was another cover "Can't take my eyes off you" Japan Radio Chart #56. The disc was packaged differently from the UK version and included 2 bonus tracks. "I need your Lovin" a cover of Teena Marie disco classic and a remix of "Can't take my eyes off you". In Australia "Fabulous" was released February 24th 2001 and Sheena was asked to perform songs from the album to close out Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gra ceremonies.
The album did not fair well mainstream but it was a success in the dance clubs of London, Japan, Australia. The album did better chart wise on the Europeon Dance Club charts and some Latin countries as well. The remixes for the singles were produced by the club DJ's at the time. Joey Negro, Sleeze Sisters, Burnt, The Sharp Boys, DJ Soma Grow, and Almighty. In the US there is still no release date set for "Fabulous".
