Fabio Liverani (born April 29, 1976 in Rome) is an Italian football midfielder who currently plays for U.S. Città di Palermo in the Serie A league, is 175 cm tall and weighs 75 kg.
Liverani, born from a Somali mother and an Italian father, made his professional debut with Viterbese of Serie C2 in 1996/97. However, it was on Perugia, where he moved on 2000/2001, that Liverani showed all his potential, and soon became the first person of African origin to represent Italy, making his debut with the azzurri in a friendly match against South Africa. Since then, he has played two times for Italy.
He played for Lazio from 2001 to 2006; thanks to his impressive final season with the biancazzurri, Liverani was called for a national team pre-World Cup stage held on May 2 and 3, but failed to be called for the FIFA World Cup. He then moved in 2006 to Fiorentina. He was called by new coach Roberto Donadoni, friendly against Croatia, 16 August 2006, as starter.
He played a total of two seasons with Fiorentina, being instrumental in the viola's successful 2007–2008 Serie A campaign which ended with a final fourth place that ensured them a spot in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League 2008-09. Following that season, Fiorentina and Liverani parted company. In May 2008 Liverani signed a contract with Palermo for three years.
