Fabian Wilnis (born August 23, 1970 in Paramaribo, Suriname) is a Dutch right-sided defender who currently plays for Ipswich Town. He is one of the longest serving players at the club, having arrived from De Graafschap in 1999. He has also played for NAC Breda. In his Ipswich Town career he has scored six goals, including goals in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United and in a 2-0 win against local rivals Norwich City. He was the supporters' Player of the Year for 2005/06.
Under Jim Magilton, Wilnis has frequently found himself on the sidelines, but, apparently content at Ipswich, signing a new one-year contract in May 2007. With the revival of Spanish defender Sito Castro and the strong partnership of Alex Bruce & Jason de Vos, Fabian found it hard to break back into the side and looked set to end his 9 year career with the Blues. After Ipswich's final game of the 2007/08 season, Fabian Wilnis announced that he was to retire but looks set to hae some coaching role at the club. [1]
