Fabián Villaseñor is a Mexican footballer and goalkeeper currently playing for CD Veracruz. He was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He was given a chance to play when the current goalie, twenty-seven-year-old Jorge Bernal, was injured. He played well and his team made it to the playoffs during the Clausura 2006 season but they were defeated by Chivas de Guadalajara on their home turf and on the enemy turf. They lost 2-1 in the first game and they lost by a score of 4-0; Villaseñor was heavily criticized for his horrid performance, and at one instance Omar Bravo from Chivas, took the ball away from him and passed it to Alberto Medina, who scored for Chivas. Chivas won the tournament that was the same season, after defeating CF Pachuca.

After that season, when Bernal recovered, he played with second division team Coatzacoalcos, where they made it to the quarter finals against Puebla. They tied the 1st leg 2-2 and lost the second leg 3-1, where a last minute penalty was scored by CF Puebla.

In the 2007 Clausura season, Villaseñor played as a starting goalie versus America, one of Mexico's oldest teams of prestige, in the twelfth game, and was almost kicked in the face when number seventeen, R. Lopez, of CF America, lost control of the ball and tried to fake a penalty shot. He almost earned himself a yellow for arguing with the ref when he refused to reprimand Lopez. The ref decided against it but warned Villaseñor to watch his temper. He has had very few previous incidents with temper, and is known for his fair play.

[edit] Trivia

  • Fabián Villaseñor is a backup goalie but nonetheless, when his team got a new coach, he was impressed by the younger goalie's abilities, and since then he has been favored heavily.
  • He is famous for being able to respond ably to fast turn-arounds and for using scare tactics to avoid being scored on when having to face-off against opponents.
  • Known as a very pacifistic player, who tries to avoid violence, and encourages other players to calm down when arguments become heated on and off the turf.
  • Has very poor-quality foot work; he said that if he had better agility, he'd have been on offense.
