Grumman F6F Hellcat fighters of fighter squadron VF-11, Carrier Air Group Eleven (CVG-11) prepare to take off from the carrier USS Hornet (CV-12) to strike targets on Formosa, January 1945. The F6F No. 22 with the flat windscreen is a F6F-3, No. 41 with the rounded windscreen a F6F-5. Clearly visivble is the "g-symbol" for any air group stationed aboard the Hornet between October 1944 and July 1945, the white checkerboards on the tail (and upper right wing).
