Fürstenwalde is a town in the Oder-Spree District of Brandenburg, Germany. It is situated on the river Spree, exactly. 55 km east of Berlin.

Fürstenwalde was first documented in 1272. In 1373 it became the official seat of the Bishopric of Lebus and Fürstenwalde's Marienkirche (Church of the Virgin Mary) was raised to a cathedral. The bishopric was secularized during the Reformation in 1555, and was completely disbanded at the ascension of Joachim Frederick as Margrave of Brandenburg in 1598.
