Félix Louis L'Herminier

Félix Louis L'Herminier (May 18, 1779 - October 25, 1833) was a French pharmacist and naturalist who was born in Paris. He studied chemistry and natural history in Paris, and in 1798 travelled to Guadeloupe, where he studied the flora and fauna of the island until 1829, when he returned to France.
He published several works on ornithology, including an important treatise on the role and function of the sternum in birds. He has several species named after him, including the Guadeloupe Woodpecker (Melanerpes herminieri) and the Martinique Curly-tailed Lizard (Leiocephalus herminieri). His son Ferdinand Joseph L'Herminier (1802-1866) was a botanist and zoologist.
