Fährhofer Stutenpreis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fährhofer Stutenpreis is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 2,200 metres (approximately 1 mile 3 furlongs) at Hamburg-Horn Racecourse, Hamburg and takes place annually in late June or early July.
The original version of the race, the Neusser Stutenpreis, was first run at Neuss in 1952. After some early variations, from 1955 the distance was set at 2,100 metres. In 1976 it was given Group 3 status, which was maintained until 1994. Although the race continued to be run ungraded until 1997, it was effectively replaced in 1995 by a new Group 3 race at Hamburg, the Hamburger Stutenpreis over 2,200 metres.
Run until 2001 with the sponsored title Deutscher Herold-Preis (a name later adopted by the Hamburger Meile), the race has since been known as the Preis der Jungheinrich Gabelstapler, the Alice-Cup, and, since 2006, the Fährhofer Stutenpreis. The latter two titles have also previously been used for a 1,600 metre race for fillies and mares at Hamburg, itself now titled the Hamburger Stutenpreis.
The race was restricted to three-year-olds in 2008, before which it had also been open to older fillies and mares.
