[edit] Purpose

If an image is available online, but cannot be uploaded to Wikipedia, it may be appropriate to use {{externalimage}} to provide a direct link to the image and a (referenced) description of what the image depicts.

{{externalimage}} should be removed as soon as an adequate (it is not adequate if the image in commons is not of sufficient quality or accuracy) image is available in commons.

{{externalimage}} can be used multiple times in an article, and each implementation of {{externalimage}} can be used to link to more than one image.

[edit] Usage

{{externalimage

|align = {{{1}}}

|width = {{{2}}}

|image1 = [ {{{3}}} {{{4}}} ] <ref> {{{5}}} </ref>

|image2 = ...

}}

Legend:

{{{1}}} = left / right / center

{{{2}}} = number(standard=300) px

{{{3}}} = URL of the image (direct link to the image, not the page if possible)

{{{4}}} = description of the image

{{{5}}} = link to the page where the image is from + date when this link was created

Please look at War against Nabis to see an implementation of {{externalimage}}.
