I believe that the portion of the map that describes the east can be improved. Vast areas of Trincomalee and Batticaloa and sections of Ampara are under the exclusive adminstration of the LTTE. This was recognisied in the Ceasefire Agreement that was signed in 2002, as well as by countless International NGOs during the distribution of Tsunami aid.
- That is why they have a different colour on the map! But if you have any information on exactly what areas they control, it would be excellent - it is very difficult to find this out from publically available sources. There was a map annexed to the CFA, but I have not been able to find a copy and I don't know if the details are officially "secret". -- Ponnampalam 18:19, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
It is interesting that, when ever the topic comes up about territorial control in Sri Lanka, the issue of "Eelam" comes up - areas under control of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) vs areas under control of the Sri Lankan Government. Nobody discusses the breakdown of the people (ethnic/religion) who live in those areas and the socio economic & political conditions in which those people live. Why not?
The coloured section (red, orange & yellow) of this map of Sri Lanka depicts the area (constituting one third of Sri Lanka)claimed by the (LTTE) as being the homeland of the Tamils. The map also illustrates (yellow & orange)the Districts within this claimed area that is currently under Government control and those under LTTE control (red) within this claimed area.
