[edit] Easy to Read Summary
This is an image. This image is called an "album cover", meaning that it is an image that appeared on the cover of an album. This particular "album cover" image was found on a shopping website known as http://www.amazon.com. An album is a group of musical songs released by a musical artist. Songs are basically just beats and lyrics thrown together. With me so far? This "album cover" qualifies as "fair use" under Wikipedia guidelines. Wikipedia is this really big web site with a ton of pages. Let me know if you get lost. Since the "album cover" qualifies as "fair use", it may be used on "album pages". In other words, these "album pages" are permitted to contain "album covers". This means that there is nothing wrong with this image being featured on an "album page". Lots of "bots", which is short for "robot", which is basically something you might see in a sci-fi movie, will place lots of "tags" on this page. No matter how many tags the bot places on the page, nothing will change the fact that this "album cover" qualifies as "fair use" and may be used on its respective "album page".

[edit] Fair use in Extended Versions (Great White album)
Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- It's a low resolution copy of a CD/album cover.
- It doesn't limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the CD/album in any way, in fact, it may encourage sales.
- Because of the low resolution, copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the album artwork on another CD.
- The image is itself a subject of discussion in the article or used in the infobox thereof.
- The image on the cover is significant because it was made by a famous artist.
[edit] Source
- Derived from a digital capture (scan/photo) of the album/CD cover (creator of this digital version is irrelevant as the copyright in all equivalent images is still held by the same party). Copyright held by the record company or the artist. Claimed as fair use regardless.
[edit] Licensing
This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the album or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
