Northernmost point

The small deserted island off shore Cape Sōya is not easily accessible to public.

Southernmost point
Because the small uninhabited coral reefs are situated in the remote place, it is very difficult for public to access there. [1]

Cape Takana (高那崎 Takanazaki?), Hateruma, Taketomi, Okinawa Prefecture 24°02′25″N, 123°47′16″E
Westernmost point
This is the only extreme point of Japan which is normally accessible to public.
Easternmost point
Only the personnel of Japan Maritime Self Defense Force, Japan Coast Guard, Japan Meteorological Agency, and other workers with special permissions are allowed to access the island.

The pole of inaccessibility is the point on land farthest from any sea.

A point in Biei, Hokkaidō, 108.2 km (67.2 mi) from the nearest coastline. 43°26′04″N, 142°47′48″E.

  1. ^ Legally, Okinotorishima is not closed to public. However, the government discourages disembarkation, as it may damage the small coral reefs. [1]
