Extraradical hyphae

These are the hyphae that live outside of the roots, branching in a dichotomous manner.

- Thick and wavy
- Fusion]between strands has been observed
- Don't usually differentiate into rhizomorphs (multi-hyphal strands)
- Exist at a density of 1-25 meters per gram of soil
