Extraradical hyphae

These are the hyphae that live outside of the roots, branching in a dichotomous manner.

  • Thick and wavy
  • Fusion]between strands has been observed
  • Don't usually differentiate into rhizomorphs (multi-hyphal strands)
  • Exist at a density of 1-25 meters per gram of soil
