[edit] Circumnavigation

Clearly the few individuals contending the claim of first circumnavigation are all extraordinary people with courage and determination beyond the norm; it is the definition of circumnavigation which is in dispute, not the endeavour of these adventurers. However, I feel that to cite Lewis as the 'first Briton' to have a claim to this title is to obfuscate what is, by any definition, a great achievement, as it gives no sense that there may not have been thousands of others before him of other nationalities. Lewis is certainly the first to circle the globe via two antipodes and crossing the equator, so until the dust settles a bit I suggest we leave it at that, but also direct readers to those others who have also attempted this challenge.

By the way, some of my pictures of the return to Greenwich are on Flickr.

[edit] Changed my mind!

I think it may help to rewrite both article and merge into one. So, I'dd say, given the small size, and lack of books on the expeditor vs expedition. yes merge. --FR Soliloquy 18:40, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
