[edit] Why this article should be kept

A summary: In the beginning the expansions were part of the EVE Online article. Eventually the article was nominated as a good article. However, at that time it didn't meet the requirements for a truly good article. The administrator David Fuchs suggested changes that would help EVE Online become a good article - one of them said that "the patches list should be removed entirely". Alatari and me, Aexus, figured that the patches deserved a mention. Since they apparently weren't meant for the main article we decided to move them into this seperate one. Here's where we stand. While this article is not nominated for deletion it may happen. This section is to prepare arguments in case the article is nominated.

[edit] Keep this article?

[edit] Pros (and counter-arguments to expect)

1. The WoW expansion The Burning Crusade has its own article - why shouldn't EVE Online have one for its expansions?

Because WoW has more than nine million players and EVE Online has about 200,000.[1][2]

2. The contents of this article were a part of the main EVE Online article for months without objection or suggestions they be removed. Alatari (talk) 18:48, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cons (and how to tackle them)

  • Anarchy Online doesn't have a seperate article for it's expansions either.
Yeah, and is Anarchy Online a good article? See...

[edit] Images

While I'm at it, perhaps we should look at adding some images here to illustrate what was new with various patches? cncplyr (talk) 01:02, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

For a Trinity Classic/Premium comparison that might be a real option. Though for the expansions before Trinity I don't see how to demonstrate new features without overloading this relatively short article with images. A Trinity before/after screenshot might be real cool.

You mean something like This?
Goztek (talk) 13:10, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that's an image I had in mind. Though especially this image is the largest version I've found of the Osprey comparison. I think once upon a time someone captured it from one of the promotion videos CCP has published. I've found two other possible sources for comparison images. One is a video by CCP that you can download here. It has a resolution of 1200 x 480 pixels and allows e.g. for this image of a Prophecy and this image of a Vexor. The second source is a Flickr photo set on CrazyKinux' Flickr page here. I've put four of his pictures together: a comparison of the Abaddon, Apocalypse and two images of the Scorpion. But while CrazyKinux' images make for higher-quality comparisons the camera's angle isn't always the same. Anyway, from a resolution point of view both the captures from the video and the Photoshop'ed images from CrazyKinux' photo set are what I could imagine for this article. What do you guys say?

Personally, I think the Prophecy one or the Vexor one should be used, with a slight preference for the Vexor, partly because it has changed quite a bit from the old model, with the gold-coloured plating being replaced with a more bluey-grey all over colour, and some of the lights moved around etc. For all of the photoshopped pics, I feel they are a bit too wide, so I'd go for the Vexor pic to go in the article.
