The ExpressTram is an automated people mover system in Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, near Detroit, Michigan. The system consists of two cable-driven trams that move along the nearly one-mile-long Concourse A of the airport's Edward H. McNamara Terminal, which is a main hub terminal for Northwest Airlines. The track is approximately 21 feet (6.4 m) above the main floor. The main station is situated at the center of the concourse (the entry/exit point), with two additional stations at the north and south ends. Passengers use escalators to move between the concourse floor and the stations situated above.
Each tram is made up of two cars and can carry up to 200 passengers at a time. The trams were custom-built by Poma-Otis Transportation Systems, a joint venture between Otis Elevator Company and Poma. Installation was performed by Otis Elevator.
The system consists of only one "track" except at the center station, where one tram enters a bypass to allow the other tram to pass.
