Exmouth Community College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Exmouth Community College is a comprehensive school in Exmouth, Devon, England. The college provides both secondary education and further education for the local community. It is the only such college in the town of Exmouth. The current principal is Mr A K Alexandria. The college has a website that is updated almost weekly and has information on forthcomming events as well as a parents' guide.
The school has two sites, on Gipsy Lane and Green Close, connected by a newly-built bridge and pathway. The Green Close site is primarily for the 'lower school' (years 7-9) while the Gipsy Lane site caters for the 'upper school' (years 10-11) and sixth form (post-16). Both sites have undergone rapid development in the last ten years, with the Turner Building (1997) and Pauline Hitchings Building (2005) opening on the Green Close site and Judith Telfer Centre on the Gipsy Lane site (2003). The school has the largest number of students in East Devon (2,327 pupils including 6th form).

[edit] Subjects offered
The college offers a wide variety of subjects to suit all of its students. The most recent OFSTED inspection graded the college's curriculum as 'outstanding'. As well as offering the core curriculum with some choice between academic and vocational subjects, the college also offers an alternative curriculum, focusing entirely on workplace skills, which typically 30 students enrol on.
[edit] Specialist status
The school has specialist status in Maths and ICT for two years. The funding that has accompanied this status has ensured that all teaching staff have their own laptop and many of the classrooms have interactive whiteboards.
[edit] Uniform
In 2003 a new uniform was introduced replacing the old sweatshirts and polo shirts. The new uniform consists of jumper with the college crest and ties. Each year group have different ties, year 7 silver/white, year 8 green, year 9 blue, year 10 purple, and year 11 gold/yellow. The colour of the stripes on the tie will remain with that student until he or she leaves the school. Therefore, the year 11 tie is next year's year 7 tie. Post 16 do not have to wear school uniform.
