Exmoor Steam Railway

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Exmoor Steam Railway is located at the Cape of Good Hope farm at Bratton Fleming in North Devon. The site has a narrow gauge steam railway (currently closed to the public) and a large workshop. According to its website, this is the location of probably the worlds most productive builder of new steam locomotives.

The Stirland family who own and run the business build about 3 new steam engines every year in gauges up to two feet. The largest user of the locomotives is the Rudyard Lake Steam Railway near Leek in Staffordshire.

The Exmoor Steam Railway also has a collection of 1 ft 11½ in (597 mm) gauge Beyer Garratt articulated locomotives from South Africa and a 2-8-2 tender engine. There are links to the Welsh Highland Railway in North Wales. One locomotive was sold there early in 2006.
