  • Real name: Exir Kamalabadi
  • Gender: Male
  • Nationality: Chinese, though I also have some Persian blood in me
  • Location: Shanghai, China

I'm interested in astrobiology and biochemistry. I am totally crazy about Chess. My favorite historical player is Mikhail Tal, and my favorite active player is the prodigy Magnus Carlsen. I'm also a Linux geek. I adore open-source absolutely.

Soccer, piano and scientific literature are a few of my favorite hobbies, aside from Wikipedia. I have two sisters and a brother (It is rare to even have a sibling, let alone three, in China.). I am currently living in Shanghai, China, and I also study there, as a junior high school student.

I first saw Wikipedia while I was Google-surfing. I didn't even remember the name. Then I stumbled on it a couple of times, and then I started to use it as a source of knowledge. I didn't know that I could edit it Before June 27, 2005. I knew about wikis before, so I wasn't shocked or anything, but an ordinary person editing an encyclopedia? I was amazed. I made a few edits as an anon, then registered the same day. I was in love with Wikipedia ever since.

Wikiphilosophy

Once a user stays here for a period of time, makes observations, communicate with others, and think about Wikipedia, they will natually come up with their own Wikiphilosophy, and it will surely affect the way they act. I have my own Wikiphilsophy that I'd like to share. Here they are.

Balance between content and community

I believe that there should be a balance of community and content. We should remember that the primary reason we are here is that we want to build an encyclopedia. Our primary aim should be improving articles. The community exists to serve the purpose of creating an encyclopedia, not as an end in itself. So if you are here to socialize, then you'd better get off the computer and make friends in real life, right now!

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong about building a community. In fact, content depends on a community. Without the community, Wikipedia will be a useless pile of disconnected gibberish with no organization whatsoever. Community is an absolute necessity in an encyclopedia like this.

However, the community isn't the end: it exists to serve the content. There should always be a balance between them.

My Wikifriends

I have met a lot of friends in Wikipedia, so I am going to list them here:

  • Essjay. Good, friendly admin, and part of the Welcoming Committe. Inactive
  • Redwolf24. Another friendly admin. Also part of the Welcoming Committe. Inactive
  • Anthony Aragorn. A contributor from China, and a devouted one.
  • Sango123. We haven't interacted much, but I am still going to list her here.
  • TantalumTelluride. Fellow Esperanzian.
  • Banes. Fellow Esperanzian.
  • Moe Epsilon. An amazing user. Very friendly and dedicated to Wikipedia.

Just a side note: because I'm too busy on other things to list all of my wikifriends, fell free to add yourself to the list if you think you deserve to be listed.
