[edit] Unverified image

Hi! Thanks for uploading Image:Drill.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{GFDL-with-disclaimers}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you.

If you uploaded other images, please clarify copyright for them as well, otherwise the images will eventually be deleted.

Thanks, Denni 01:39, 2004 Dec 13 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Wheelbig2.jpg has been listed for deletion

An image or media file you uploaded, Image:Wheelbig2.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.
Hey there, I noticed your comments on TheCoffee's talk page and think that the original image should definitely go back on the page with a note saying that it was taken on the opening. I do not like replacing images that others have placed on here as I do appreciate that it takes time and effort. The only reason I did so was because of a comment on the talk page asking for an image that didn't cut off part of the wheel. I can assure you it wasn't vanity as I had previously looked at the page to add an image and didn't as the article already had the said image. I reckon if you add it back on with a note about the historical significance it definitely is worthwhile. No hard feelings. Regards. SeanMack 17:15, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Fair enough - I'll try to tread gently! It was a strange day, poured with rain all afternoon, not at all easy to get a good shot of HRH etc from a long distance, but I reckon after spending three hours sheltering under a poly bag I need something to show for it - sdince then I have visited several times as I live just down the road, and got many more really crisp photos in better conditions.Excalibur 17:57, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Drill.jpg

Have you seen the opinions expressed on the image's description page? What's your take on that? Lupo 07:44, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

I love the picture of the kid with the drill! I go to it sometimes just when I'm feeling blue and I want a lift. It's not just that it's a great picture of a kid who I would love to meet. There's a certain jaunty defiance in Dad's use of it. I like the "Here's a kid with Down syndrome. He's a dynamic person with skills and interests and a full, satisfying life. If he doesn't fit your stereotypes, get over it!" Thanks so much for posting it. 24.145.5.68 (talk) 00:35, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Some help

I've fixed the image syntax for you over at Logba language (the problem was that you uploaded the image as image:Logbagirl.JPG (with uppercase JPG), and filenames are case-sensitive here. I hope you don't mind I removed the link to the Scottish friends of Logba site; as I said in my edit summary, it's interesting but not directly relevant to the article on the language. If you want to start Logba people, go right ahead! Best, — mark 14:19, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh and you might want to use the Show preview button to review your edits before you save a page. That way it's easier to see what might be going wrong. — mark 14:21, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Excalibur, I've replied on my own talk page: see User_talk:Mark_Dingemanse#New_Picture_on_Logba. Regards, — mark 18:06, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Again replied over there. Cheers, — mark 09:27, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Neil Lennon

I don't care how witty you think you're being with [1], calling Rangers fans "orange bastards" is unacceptable. Demiurge 22:24, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:Neil Lennon

Is it? Why exactly? That said, I'm not supporting Lennon, but I dont think evidence gathered using techniques like this (lipreading) is acceptable either - its an intrusion of privacy.

Things have moved on, who honestly cares apart from the wittery PC folk at the Scottish executive? Nowadays this is just ritualistic, playground stuff, totally harmless. Look, I'm a Rangers fan, English, and a Catholic, I usually go to matches with my friend who is an african Muslim, and as such I am very well qualified to have an opinion.

It's so inaccurate as to be laughable, - neither word is really much of an insult, given the way that the fan base is diversifying, is it?

A third of all children born these days are technically bastards, the word orange is hardly an insult - well most football fans wouldn't regard loyalty to the Dutch Royal family as critical to their identity would they? Times move on, what was a mortal insult a few years ago is now a bit of friendly rogueish banter. The best way to defeat sectarianism is to laugh at it together, not try to supress it. Lets not try and supress it 'cos of misplaced embarassment.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Armsthumb.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Armsthumb.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] AfD Nomination: Carers

An editor has nominated the article Carers for deletion, under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the nomination (also see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on why the topic of the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome: participate in the discussion by editing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carers. Add four tildes like this ˜˜˜˜ to sign your comments. You can also edit the article Carers during the discussion, but do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top of the article), this will not end the deletion debate. [edit] Plooks

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Plooks, by Blisco, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Plooks fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Dicdef, already defined at wikt:plook

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Plooks, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Plooks itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Genetic politics & reproductive technology

Hi Excalibur,

It seems you are popular with research students. I'm at the University of Sheffield, conducting PhD research into 'genetic politics and reproductive technology'. I read your comments here [2] and I wondered if you'd like to take part in my research project? I believe you'll be able to make a valuable contribution. Before you decide, you should be aware of what this involves. I want to email you with a few simple questions on the topics of the research. These emailed questions will be sent in stages, over a period of weeks, and all of the identifying information you provide will be treated with confidentiality. The research findings will be disseminated amongst stake holders in the field and I would be happy to share these findings with you prior to any publications. If you are interested, you will find my contact details on my userpage. Feel free to get in touch should you have any questions. Your valuable contribution would be much appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

[edit] Carnival - میلہ

Do you still need the text for Carnival (کارنیول) or festival (فیسٹیول)...or was it the actual Urdu word you wanted? That would be "Mela" (میلہ -- which came out better in the heading).

Ah! I've been to Logba several times! When I'm in Ghana, I live in Hohoe and work in Gbi Kledjo. Have you ever been to Kledjo? I'm starting a 501(c)(3) for my school and hope to be going back before the year ends to supervise a fence project that will be containing the campus so that the children can't wander off -- there are 60 children and 2 housemothers who have to care for them during the time they're not in class, so kids tend to wander off and show up in downtown Hohoe a few hours later. It was so nice to see pictures of Ghanaian school uniforms again -- I miss my kids! --Allie 19:13, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I would contest your deletion simply because people should have a right to know everything they can about DS. The most important fact about the research is not that supplements are being tested or used, but the general direction of the research. It has been found that DS folks have certain heightened needs for certain nutrients. What isn't clear yet is whether or not it can be fixed by supplements or whether this is a more profound problem than that. I don't think anybody has claimed that it is a done deal that supplements work. This is ongoing research. The most important information is that this is a direction some researchers are working on. It is hardly a commercial issue at this point, because as far as I know, nobody is selling these particular supplements in a commercial way.

[edit] Emily W Sunstein‎

Hi. I've actually removed the CSD tag from this article, because the criteria offered was invalid. So you should have some time to flesh it out a little more. Also, if it is deleted, the text can be recovered for you by any willing administrator. But I would suggest adding some more information and some evidence that the person meets Wikipedia: Notability (people). Natalie 22:00, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I like to edit bit by bit. theres plenty more to write about this oustanding American campaigner and author. Excalibur 22:03, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

I took a quick look and it looks good - the MLA prize is an obvious notability assertion so it should be safe from a speedy delete. The only thing I've done so far is removed the "survived by" information, since that's more of an obituary thing than an encyclopedia thing. I'll wikify and add some cats, also. Natalie 23:53, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DS

Hi Excalibur. At the time I only told her the article was "open" for editing, and did caution her to ask for other opinions at the Talk page. As her trouble seemed to be simply with editing the page (which was semi-protected at the time), I never really checked back to see what content she had actually added (i.e. whether it was the paragraph she left at my Talk). Feel free to remove it and contact her about it. Best, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 20:34, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Paul Conway (Butcher)

I regret to say that you may have failed to highlight the problems in the Ernie article. Conway actually seems to be notable - at least from this article. I think you need to expand the article (what's his missus's name and where did he go to school) and explicate at length on steak pies and Cumberland sausages - perhaps even break out to separate articles. Have these by any chance been taken into space or mentioned in novels?

[edit] Jim 'Ronin' Harrison

Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to the Jim 'Ronin' Harrison page. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. --Stormie 04:42, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't disagree that the article is "unattributed self-agrandisement". However adding nonsense to it is not the appropriate response. The article has been nominated for deletion, I suggest you offer your opinion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jim 'Ronin' Harrison. --Stormie 01:35, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Humour

Maybe you thought this was Uncyclopedia it isn't about humour, you were trying to make a point and failed. If you had created a stupid article I would have nominated it for deletion, as it was you created an article about an individual who has had national media coverage on more than one occasion and regular local media coverage. It could be sourced about and the coverage was not all trivial.

I manly deal with marital arts articles if you want to see a bad bio-article have a look at them ignoring this the result falls under the category of advanced humour, irony. --Nate1481( t/c) 17:21, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I just simply wanted to say that this image, Image:Drill.jpg is the image of my day. Truly, I feel that one picture could mean a THOUSAND words. I feel a lot of love in that picture. I came across the article Drill and saw the picture. My first impression was "oh, here's another oh I'm so proud of my kid" picture, but then I found out more about it, and made me feel like an asshole, haha. I'm sorry for getting the wrong impression, and I'm glad that picture is there. It just made my day really. Thank you. I'm new to Wikipedia, but if there's anything I could do to feature that picture as image of the day or anything, please let me know. Hello. The Permission on the image says “non-commercial use only”, and the tags are for copyleft licenses — GFDL and CC by-sa, which do not allow such limitation.

What did you mean?

AFAIK, even if you remove the “non-commercial” part, laws of at least some countries will still require a model release for commercial(?) use, so that part is, probably, unnecessary.
