Exarchate of the Philippines

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Exarchate of the Philippines is a jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople governed by the Orthodox Metropolitanate of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia (OMHKSEA).[1][2] Today, there are some 560 Orthodox in the country,[3] around 40 of those being expatriates. There are six parishes of Orthodoxy from which the faith is being practiced[3][4]: Parañaque[5], Quezon City, Cataingan, Sorsogon, Lake Sebu and Los Baños.[3][6][7] Correction: Officially the parishes are 3: The Annunciation Orthodox Cathedral in Paraňaque, Metro Manila, the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Los Baňos, Laguna and the Theotokos Orthodox Church in Cataiňgan, Masbate island. The other 3 mentioned are only chapels: The St Nectarios chapel in Quezon City, Metro Manila, the St Eleftherios chapel in Sorsogon, Bicol, and the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Chapel in Cotabato, Mindanao island. One more church, the Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Siniloan, Laguna, is functioning alternatively, in connection with the Holy Trinity parish of Los Baňos.

The Annunciation church was consecrated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I on March 5, 2000,[5] during his visit to the Philippines.[8] Two other churches--one in Cataingan and the other in Los Baños--have since been established, along with a few other chapels.
