[edit] Cleanup tag on IndyCar

The disambiguous page was deliberately created with the unusual format based on the unusual overlapping uses of the term. It took quite a bit of discussion to arrive at the current format. Check out the long discussion on the article's talk page. It is a key page for WikiProject American Open Wheel Racing, and it is monitored closely. Please open a discussion if you would like to propose a change to the format. Remember, the Manual of Style is a guideline, not a policy. Cheers! Royalbroil T : C 12:38, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps it should not be a disambiguation page? Ewlyahoocom 21:28, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RFD Listing

Just wanted to let you know that I've listed a redirect you've created, try before you buy, for deletion on WP:RFD. While redirecting from a specific topic to a broader topic can be useful, I think it can be confusing to redirect from a broad topic to a more specific one. If you disagree I am more than willing to retract my listing. Thanks. —INTRIGUEBLUE (talk|contribs) 20:24, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The ISO mess

An anon had swapped the pages around using cut and paste; you reverted to the correct ISO redirecting to the standards organization by redirecting and moving. Unfortunately, that made most of the history appear in the wrong place, which I (think I) have repaired. If you see users moving pages by cut and paste, you can report that at WP:SPLICE to have it fixed. Note that the disambiguation page should be at Iso, with Iso (disambiguation) redirecting to it, not the other way around, see WP:DAB#Page_naming_conventions. Anyway, it is fixed now. Happy editing, Kusma (討論) 14:31, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Already Dead

It is a name of a book. Why did you redirect it? They are making a movie about it too.

If you don't believe me click here. OBEY STARMAN 19:04, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello. I initially created Already dead as a redirect to Death. But then someone moved it to Already Dead -- it probably would have been better just to make a new page at that location, but whatever. It's all good cause Already dead can redirect and Already Dead can be about the movie. Cool? Ewlyahoocom 07:52, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Yah, I was just checking up and letting you know. OBEY STARMAN 13:41, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Hey, Actually I think it should redirect to the book, already dead doesn't seem to deal with death. :P

[edit] Colony Collapse Disorder

Hi. If you're wondering why your recently-added link was removed, it's because there was already a link to this on the page for the Western honey bee, which is the only species of honey bee affected; the honey bee page is intended for things that apply to ALL species of honey bees, not just the one common species. That's why the Western honey bee has its own page - so things about that species can be kept in the proper context. Dyanega 22:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Entree

You added the mergeto Template to Entree, which reads "It has been suggested that this article or section be merged into Hors d'œuvre. (Discuss)". There has in fact been discussion on that Talk page, which is unanimously opposed to the merger, yet you went ahead with the merger without even contributing to the discussion. Could you please join the discussion? Thanks, --Macrakis 20:57, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Check the edit history, was the merger done here (by another user)? The page as you've left it just dupliactes information available at the other more relevant articles. In any case, now the article is/should be a dismabiguation page -- and it should follow the format of disambiguation pages. Ewlyahoocom 03:22, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, you're right, Vegaswikian actually changed it, but you reverted to the dab page version. That is a mistake, as discussed in the talk page, because an Hors d'oeuvre is actually a different concept from an Entree (in the sense of "first course"). In a full meal in France, you have Hors d'oeuvre (a.k.a. amuse-bouche, amuse-gueule, appetizer), then Entree (a.k.a. premier plat = first course), then Main Course (then Cheese then Dessert). In Italy, they are called Antipasto, Primo, Secondo. U.S. usage is of course somewhat different, since "Entree" has come to mean "Main Course", but that's another matter.... --Macrakis 14:36, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Multiple personality controversy

As you have contributed to the article Multiple personality controversy, you may wish to know that it has been suggested that the article be merged into Dissociative identity disorder. For the sake of objectivity, I have not checked to see what your personal contribution to the article was it is best to notify interested parties regardless of whichever position, if any, they might take. You created a redirect from NILF to Mélissa Theuriau. I'm curious, what's NILF? Gobonobo T C 05:49, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Tagged for speedy delete. Funny joke, it gave me a smile, but unfortunately it's not really encyclopedic and thus it has to go. Thanks for the grin, though, Ewlyahoocom. Joie de Vivre 20:31, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MILF in List of pornographic sub-genres

[edit] Your edit to 'Crick'

In crick, you changed the link creek which points to stream to creek (water). The creek (water) article redirects to stream. There is no need to make this change, and in doing so you have introduced an unecessary step in finding the linked article. Did you have any special reason for doing this? Since I am in the business of fixing redirects, I changed it back. Please let me know if you have any ideas brewing that require this extra redirect. Zab 02:50, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Referring to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation_pages)#Piping: "This guidance to avoid piping means that a link to a redirect term will sometimes be preferred to a direct link, if the redirect term contains the disambiguation title and the redirect target does not." Also if, for some unfathomable reason, Creek (water) became a real page, then it would be a better link. Of course, reasonable people can disagree :-) Ewlyahoocom 04:06, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Hang on -- when you say that you're "in the business of fixing redirects", what do you mean? May I suggest that you also review the section at Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken? Ewlyahoocom 04:18, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, it was originally a link to a disambiguation page. The fact of the matter is that creek served the same purpose as creek, and was probably less resource intensive. So why change? Zab 04:21, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
What was originally a link to a disambiguation page? Ewlyahoocom 04:25, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Daddy daughter date night

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Daddy daughter date night, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but yours may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. 172.150.205.106 05:47, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Candelaria cleanup

I saw you added {{disambig-cleanup}} to Candelaria. I'm eager to fix the page, but i'm not sure what about it you dislike. Could you give me some more specific criticism? Thanks. Foobaz·o< 16:54, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello! Generally, there should be only one link per line. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) for more specific information. Ewlyahoocom 17:31, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] db notice

I moved Charge (baseketball) to Charge (basketball), so: A tag has been placed on Charge (baseketball), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. [edit] Kg for King

Hello. Thank you for pointing out that there was already a Kg (disambiguation) page. Believe it or not, I did look before adding the Kg for King entry to Kg, but could not find (I can only assume that a mispelt disambiguation when I searched). My apologies for any confusion I caused. With regard to your second point about pointing to an article with the information this poses a problem. The thing is, the term does not apply to only one indivdual, and so linking it to a saint who happened to be a king would be overly specific and exclude others. Perhaps an article on Saints that were also monarchs would bridge this? Can the link from disambiguation be to a list? The reason I linked to Monarch was because it appeared to be the best generic fit at the time. Thanks again. Kwib 10:37, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Athlete/Sportsperson

Please see Talk:List of words having different meanings in British and American English#Athlete and Talk:Sportsperson for my comments in response to your revert. I intend to change it back if you don't have a good counter-argument. Regards, Alex9788 09:53, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Also see Talk:Athlete. No-one else has made a comment as of yet, and if no-one does soon I'm going to just make my proposed change. Athlete has also now been listed on List of words having different meanings in British and American English, so your original excuse for reverting my edit is void. If you've got something to add please do, but otherwise please let me know it's ok to change the redirect. Thanks, Alex9788 14:03, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm convinced. Ewlyahoocom 04:46, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Flyover

I'm in the UK, and I always understood a 'flyover' to be a high-level road overpass, or one existing solely for grade seperation. I had never heard of an 'overpass' until relatively recently. In short, I do not believe that use of 'flyover' to be US-centric. Midlandstoday 16:32, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lens

Thanks for your message "...Each bulleted entry should, in almost every case, have exactly one navigable (blue) link..." And even more to the point, from the style manual: "These pages are not for exploration, but only to help the user navigate to a specific article."

I wasn't aware of this policy. I'm not sure if I agree with it (a 1- or 2-sentence explanation seems a good idea to me), but "dura lex sed lex"; if that's the policy so be it and I'll try to stick to it in future. Pol098 21:08, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New Ordinances of 1311

Why the name change? I can't see any discussion of it at the article talk page. --Dweller 21:11, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

That's how it's called in the article, so why not have the article itself share that name? Ewlyahoocom 21:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Interesting. The article seems to call them by both names. I'll ask my favourite historian for some input. --Dweller 21:21, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Please see this thread... User_talk:Clio_the_Muse#Ordinances. Can I suggest you move the article back over the redirect and then open a consensus debate at the article talk page if you still wish to move it to the "New" nomenclature? It's usual to debate any potentially contentious major edits before undertaking them. Thanks --Dweller 09:56, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "nulling primary use" at Green slime (disambiguation)

Sure. Per the Manual of Style entry, the Dungeons and Dragons meaning isn't dominant over the others, so it gets mixed in with the rest. None of them qualify as mainstream, really. Doctor Sunshine talk 14:55, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Then shouldn't you be moving the articles around, to put that disambiguation page at the primary usage? Ewlyahoocom 15:05, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of North American area codes

On my talk page you mentioned you changed the above to a disambiguation page. You said, "That editor didn't fix any of those links so there are now a few hundred ambiguous links left pointing at this page.. instead of being part of a template these links are plain old links, so there's no easy fix."
I am sort of curious, how would they be a template for this purpose? A lot of these pages call that page through a template, meaning it could be possible to change the reference there, but if that's not what you meant, perhaps you can give me a little insight because I am interested. Paul Robinson (Rfc1394) 05:44, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

First, I didn't change the page to be a disambiguation page (sorry if I that wasn't clear). As part of a navbox-type or infobox-type template. An anon editor made similar changes (e.g. here) using some table code that looked kind of like a navbox. One change to a template (e.g. here) can "fix" all the pages that transclude it. Ewlyahoocom 05:57, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I ran across a set of pages like that and they totally screwed up Special:Whatlinkshere such that it looked like things were redirecting in bizarre ways (see also Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Totally confusing set of double-redirects). I wondered if there was a way to generate a list of "long" redirects (where long was anything beyond the redirect and optional redirect templates) but didn't find one. So yes, a better solution would be much appreciated! Ewlyahoocom 17:20, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Supersweet

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Supersweet, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Supersweet is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Supersweet, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] what are you doing??

Why did you put Repeater (student) as a redirect to grade retention? You cannot make changes if you did not discuss with everyone. I am trying to put grade retention as a redirect to Repeater (student). So that's why I put up a discussion board before it gets redirected. That's the correct way to do things here. I want Repeater (student) as a separate article instead of grade retention. There's a reason why I asked for a change of title. You did the same to continuation school. You knew that we were discussing and you just simply don't care. You just went and redirected repeater (student). that's not right. I'm waiting for an apology. --Nitsirk 21:28, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Having this redirect has no bearing on the move discussion, nor does it present any hinderance to your moving the page to that location. May I refer you to WP:Redirect and Help:Moving a page#Moving over a redirect? Ewlyahoocom 01:04, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Too cheap to meter

Why does too cheap to meter redirect to Nuclear Power. Makes no sense. 06:18, 31 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.255.187.32 (talk)

One of the promises of nuclear power was that its energy would be too cheap to meter i.e. it would cost more to install a meter and bill the customer than the electricity was worth. It becamse a kind of catchphrase for the industry.[1][2][3] Ewlyahoocom 15:14, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Teflon and Birds

It wasn't a very critical comment on the Teflon page, but the rationale for adding it is that bird owners often have no idea that Teflon cookware is lethal. I read the article you cited on Teflon Flu, but it doesn't mention that birds are much more sensitive to it. Is that worth adding there? What do you think? Alpha Ralpha Boulevard 07:34, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Between a page about non-stick surfaces and a page about Polymer fume fever, I think that information would be better suited to the page about Polymer fume fever. Ewlyahoocom 07:37, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This Teflon mess

Hi,

We've now got something like five disambiguation pages for this subject, all of which link to each other. These need to be consolidated in one place at Teflon, which should disambiguate the whole lot. We were heading towards this, but it's all messed up again thanks to non-stick surface. Any thoughts? Chris Cunningham 12:32, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I was hoping that having a section in a new, broader non-stick surface article would give us someplace to consolidate the duplicated information about the Teflon trademark. In any case, most users searching for Teflon are probably looking for non-stick surfaces generically and would not necessarily be interested in DuPont's trademarked use of the term. That's as may be, but they should be pointed at the PTFE article in this case, not one which has next to no information in it. That DuPont apply the "Teflon" trademark to lots of things other than PTFE isn't really relevant to us. Most people think of PTFE when they think of Teflon, and that's where we should point people unless we're really sure that they don't want PTFE. Chris Cunningham 18:46, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nations of Ace Combat

I was trying to split up the "Nations and Organizations of Ace Combat Article" to keep it from becoming to long. Sorry if I screwed up, figured I would.Rogue Commander 02:22, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kerfuffle

I apologise for bringing that over, I was trying to make a statement about his position being groundless and suggested if he thought it had ground to suggest to try and get the template deleted. He apparently took me seriously. –– Lid(Talk) 12:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:PaidProgramming.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:PaidProgramming.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:58, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] For The Win (Internet slang)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article For The Win (Internet slang), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of For The Win (Internet slang). It claimed to be a summary-style article, but otherwise appears to be a disambiguation page redundant with Las Vegas (disambiguation). Was it supposed to become a main space article? -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:53, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

I think at this point it was a summary style article but the pages have been moved and redone a bit since then and now I've lost track. I'd agree that it's now best to go ahead and delete it. Ewlyahoocom (talk) 21:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Hoodoo (song)

An editor has nominated Hoodoo (song), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hoodoo (song) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:29, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
