Yes, you stick out your arm vertically. If you are onboard, you inform the guard.
Trains are travelling at a max of 25 mph on the stretch of line near the halt. This gives them plenty of time to slow down. Despite the trees, sight is good.
This occurs on National Rail lines a lot as well. In these cases, trains always slow down so they could stop, and sound the horn.
