Evie Tornquist-Karlsson

Evie Tornquist-Karlsson (born Tornquist) is a Contemporary Christian music singer of the 1970s and 1980s.

Evie was born in Rahway, New Jersey in March 1956 and is the only one in her family born in the US. She sings Christian music in the styles of pop and easy listening. During her career as a singer based in the United States, she was the most popular woman in contemporary Christian music before Amy Grant and Sandi Patti. Her best-known songs include "Pass It On", "Give Them All to Jesus", and "Mirror".

Her music career began when her family were visiting Norway. As well as releasing many albums with Word Records, she also released a number in the Norwegian language. With the help of Larseric Janson, a family friend in the 1970s, when she was fifteen, Evie appeared on a late night Norwegian talk show where she sang three songs and was interviewed. In 1974, Evie released her first American Album,EVIE. her next album, EVIE AGAIN, followed in 1975. GENTLE MOMENTS was her third, 1976 which was followed in 1977 by COME ON RING THOSE BELLS. The same year, MIRROR was released. After that Album, Came A LITTLE SONG FOR MY LITTLE FRIENDS (1978) and NEVER THE SAME (1979)

Still in high school, she performed in concerts in Norway where she lived briefly. Evie had her own TV specials in Norway, Holland and Sweden as well. Many of her recorded songs were written by her husband Pelle Karlsson, whom she married in 1979. They recorded many songs and several albums together, produced by their company, White Field Music. These included: UNFAILING LOVE (1981), EVIE: HYMNS (1983) They moved to California in 1980 and in 1983 to Naples, Florida. In the early 1980s Pelle and Evie Karlsson joined the Sky Angel Dominion Network where they recorded a few albums. Later the Karlsson family left Sky Angel, and continue to pursue a musical ministry as a family, broadening their repertoire. The Repertoire included: LOVING PROMISES, a 2 LP set (1985), WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE (1986) A Christmas Album Entitled: CHRISTMAS MEMORIES (1987), SONGS FOR HIS FAMILY (1996) DAY BY DAY, a UK compilation on CD (1998)and KINGDOM CONNECTION (2002) Evie and Pelle currently live in Florida with their two children, Kris and Jenny who are now out of high school. Evie and her music are still loved today, and Evie albums are still being hunted down and collected by her fans. Evie tours from time to time with Rebecca St. James performing around the US and abroad. Her album Mirror was nominated to Grammy in 1977, and in 1981, Evie, who was named Female Vocalist of the Year at the 1977 and 1978 she got a Dove Awardsand retired from performing. 2005 she was inducted to the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. In 2007 Evie was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame.[1]
