[edit] Early success
In February 2005 she beat world # 11 Vera Zvonareva 6–4, 6–2 in Thailand. In March she defeated world # 2 Amelie Mauresmo 2–6, 6–2, 7–5, in Indian Wells.
[edit] Problems
In late November 2005, the WTA Tour barred for life her coach, Joe Giuliano, and suspended for two years her father, Simon Linetsky. They are prohibited from the grounds of WTA events and official player hotels. The actions stem from incidents involving Linetskaya at a tournament in August 2005 at La Costa's Acura Classic. Linetsky, 49, a professor of mathematics with a black belt in karate, was arrested and charged with suspicion of battery, and Evgenia was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The week after Linetsky's arrest, the Carlsbad police received a tip from a doctor in Los Angeles who had treated Linetskaya, then 18. The doctor said she contended that her coach had assaulted her. By that time, Giuliano had left town. He is wanted for questioning in a police investigation into the matter, but his whereabouts are unknown.[1]
She did not play between January 2006 and February 2007. She dropped off the rankings computer altogether.
[edit] Comeback
In February 2007 she won the Montechoro, Portugal tournament. The following month she won both the Ramat HaSharon 2 and the Raanana tournaments in Israel.
[edit] Miscellaneous
Linetskaya, who is Jewish, plays with a Star of David necklace around her neck.
