[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:20, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm waiting for the next move... fetofs Hello! 23:52, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Middle Ages did not call younger members of royal families as princes and princesses

please check the ongoing discussion about "princess" title on Talk:Margaret of Connaught - it will have implications that many medieval women will soon get the courtesy prefix "princess" before their names in article names. ObRoy 21:34, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orders of Jamaica

Hi, thanks for creating the page on the Orders of Jamaica. I just wanted to point out that the Governor General of Canada is not the soverign. She is the Chancellor, in the head of the Orders as proxy for the Soverign, who by their constitutions is the Queen of Canada, currently Elizabeth II.--Dowew

Hi Sorry, I read your article too quickly. I though it said that the GG was soverign. However according to [[1]] Elizabeth II is soverign of the orders. So who is soverign ? The Jamaican GG ? Also The Jamaican honours system has another page on wikipedia [[2]]. I just found it. Dowew 22:07, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your RfA

I am sorry to inform you that your Request for Adminship (RfA) has failed to reach sufficient consensus for promotion, and has now been delisted and archived. Please do not look upon this outcome as a discouragement, but rather as an opportunity to improve. Try to address the concerns raised during your RfA and, in a few months' time, resubmit your request. Thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia in this capacity! Redux 13:54, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks Evadb

CVO, FSA, FSG, FHS, FHG (Hon), FRHSC (Hon), FHSNZ,

If you're still there do we need to have hon post noms included, as opposed to a line in the article itself?I'm not sure of other articles where the many people with hon are included in thei way. Alci12 10:42, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Brooke-Little at Clayesmore.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Brooke-Little at Clayesmore.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 14:00, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On 13 October 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article William Bruges, which you edited. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

I technically started the article, and I nominated it, so this notice was placed on my talk page. You did most/all of the work, so I thought I'd forward it on to you.--dave-- 13:28, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Knights Hospitaller

Hello, please do not move an article manually like that. If you think there is a justification for that article to be moved, please discuss it on the talk page first, and we can do a proper move if necessary. Adam Bishop 18:38, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] GFDL Picture of South African Heralds

Hello, I'm not sure what you mean by your message on my talk page. The owner of the image gave me permission to put this on the Wikipedia as long as it was properly cited as being taken by Jo. I actually sent e-mails to David, but he said that Jo took this particular picture. What exactly would you like me to do?--dave-- 20:15, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Revert

Wiki does have a policy about using revert Please try to follow the rules like the rest of us. Alci12 23:26, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Posting a comment on the talk would have done the job
As to the issue it is that in articles with long lists of office holders people may read to the bottom or go straight to the bottom (as I did) then decide to click on the incumbent. Yet what you find is you have to go all the way back to the top. It seemed a fair exception to the general rule of not repeating links to have the present holder linked at the bottom as well. Failing that the bottom seems the most obvious place and the other articles seem to follow that pattern so removing the top link would have been more consistent Alci12 23:48, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] St John Orders

Thanks for your discussion on other pages about restructuring the St John Order articles. I'm not sure if you saw my suggestions there. How about something with an article for each of these. This would cover the St John Orders, and similar structure could be given to the Lazarite Orders.

  • Alliance of Orders of St John
  • Order of Malta
The Four Main Protestant Orders
  • Balley Brandenburg ("Johanniterorden")
  • Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem
  • Johanniterorden I Sverige
  • Johanniter Orde in Nederland
The Four non-German Commanderies of the Bailiwick of Brandenburg
  • Swiss Commandery of the Order of St John
  • French Commandery of the Order of St John
  • Hungarian Commandery of the Order of St John
  • Finnish Commandery of the Order of St John

If we had an article for each of the starred items, that should cover the topic pretty well. The origins of the Hospitaller Orders in general could either be covered under the SMOM or possibly under the alliance. Thanks! --dave-- 14:55, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Donald Bradman

I'm surprised by your cite request. I don't think you'll find a single cricket source published since World War Two that would say anything different. --Dweller 09:05, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

After some brief chat on the talk page there, I came up with the idea of finding a source that said that Bradman is universally acclaimed. The source is now included in the article. Thanks! --Dweller 13:38, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
You might also be interested to see why such an apparently POV tag is appropriate. Bradman's dominance of cricket far exceeds Michael Jordan's in basketball - there's a statistical comparison at Donald Bradman#Context. --Dweller 13:59, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Heraldry re Lyon etc

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Sir Colin Cole and John Brooke-Little.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sir Colin Cole and John Brooke-Little.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:48, 14 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 81.193.153.237 19:48, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Damn good work

Just congratulating you on your work on Bart King. I'm a fan of King's and it is good to see him get such a comprehensive write up. I plan on getting articles up on all first-class cricketers from Philadelphia's cricketing golden age by the end of the year and any help you can provide would be much appreciated! I created the Philadelphian cricket team and Christie Morris articles, so any help you can give on them would also be appreciated. Keep up the good work! Andrew nixon 15:47, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Johnson Lyndon CoatofArms.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Johnson Lyndon CoatofArms.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
