Mikri Arktos (Edition of Entechno & Contemporary Music) is a record label founded in Athens, in 1996 by Paraskevas Karasoulos. Mikri Arktos is best known for entechno music, but has released a wide variety of recordings.
From the onset, Mikri Arktos has established a reputation on the quality of the work it produces both on the innovative titles and on the carefully designed and packaged end product.

Paraskevas Karasoulos has said about Mikri Arktos that "...for each publication, CD label, event, that Mikri Arktos is producing, we wish it to have the age of a spring. To narrate a fragile world, densely populated by dreams, present and future, an alive world which advocates, foremost, a doubt for its own self.
Mikri Arktos cannot be seen just as a publishing house or a record label. In its starry roof, each and every sign must be strong and self-illuminating and therefore independent of conventions or restrictions.
All in all, Mikri Arktos is an experience in the making; for the reason that is a communication vehicle for those who created it and for those who will team up with it..."

Paraskevas Karasoulos uses both his knowledge and experience as well as that of the artists he collaborates with to produce records of high quality and determined aesthetic standards and he is the executive Record producer on all of its recordings.
Entechno music is the focus of the recordings and the company pays great attention to the written word and the lyricism of the songs. Starting from the first recording under its label, Mikri Patrida, Mikri Arktos experienced an astounding success. This has enabled the company to move on to discovering new music artists (lyricists, singers, song-writers, composers), produce further recordings and carry out a number of music events focusing on culture. Mikri Arktos initially concentrated on entechno, releasing records by artists including:
- Mikri Patrida - Μικρή Πατρίδα - where the company collaborated with Paraskevas Karasoulos, Giorgos Andreou, Pantelis Theoharidis, Morfo Tsaireli, George Dalaras, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, and, Alkinoos Ioanidis.
- Metamorfoseis - Μεταμορφώσεις - where the company collaborated with Periklis Kypraios and Pantelis Theoharidis.
- Don Quixotes - Δον Κιχώτες - where the company collaborated with Paraskevas Karasoulos, Thodoris Oikonomou, and, Maria Dimitriadi.
- Proti Akroasi - Πρώτη Ακρόαση της Μικρής Άρκτου - where the company collaborated with Paraskevas Karasoulos, Thodoris Oikonomou, Maria Dimitroula, Minos Theoharis, SoÑaMa, Orfeas Zafeiropoulos, and, Zoi Nalmpanti. The songs were titles from renowned Greek and international artists.
- Stin Idia Zoi - Στην ίδια ζωή - where the company collaborated with Paraskevas Karasoulos, Thodoris Oikonomou, and, Tasos Apostolou.
- Tha To Metanioseis - Θα το μετανιώσεις - where the company collaborated with Paraskevas Karasoulos, Dimitra Galani, and, Tania Tsanaklidou. The record was the music for Katerina Evangelakou's movie Tha to Metanioseis.
- Defteri Akroasi - Δεύτερη Ακρόαση της Μικρής Άρκτου - where the company collaborated with Paraskevas Karasoulos, Gerasimos Evangelatos, Maria Dimitroula, Alexandros Emmanouilidis, Vasilis Mirianthopoulos, Themis Karamouratidis, Dimitris Maramis, Orpheas Zafeiropoulos, Kostas Tsirkas, Eleonora Zouganeli, Panagiotis Asvestas, Ilias Vamvakousis, Natassa Mpofiliou, Dimitris Oikonomou, Zaharias Karounis, Vasiliki Papakonstantinou, Miltos Seliniotakis, Xristos Papadopoulos, Giannis & Stefanos Sinis, Vaggelis Mpousmalis, Giannis Georgantelis, and, SoÑaMa.
- Ta Soneta Tou Skoteinou Erota - Τα Σονέτα του Σκοτεινού Έρωτα - where the company collaborated with Sotiris Trivizas, Dimitris Maramis, and, Minos Theoharis. The songs were translated poems of Federico Garcia Lorca. This CD is accompanied by a book of Lorca's poems, published also by Mikri Arktos.
- Ekato Mikres Anases - 100 μικρές ανάσες - where the company collaborated with Gerasimos Evangelatos, Kostas Tsirkas, and, Natassa Mpofiliou.
- En Lefko - Εν Λευκώ - where the company collaborated with Gerasimos Evangelatos, Themis Karamouratidis, and, Natassa Mpofiliou.
- Fysaei Allios Edo O Aeras - Φυσάει αλλιώς εδώ ο αέρας - where the company collaborated with Alexandros Emmanouilidis, Odysseas Ioannou, Natassa Mpofiliou, and, Ipogia Revmata.

Mikri Arktos made a leap into the publishing world with the biography of Federico Garcia Lorca by Ian Gibson. Since then, it has made a deep impression with the carefully chosen books it publishes, its faithful reading public and its extraordinary designs and presentation of the work it produces.
Poetry is the focus point of the company's direction and that is manifested in each and every publication it considers.
Amongst its book titles, feature the following:
- Federico Garcia Lorca - Φεδερίκο Γκαρθία Λόρκα - a biography written by Ian Gibson and translated by Spiros Tsougos.
- Oi Fylakes Ton Mystikon - Οι Φύλακες των Μυστικών - a children's story written by Eva Evangelakou and illustrated by Chrysa Haratsi.
- Mia Nyhta Sti Homateri - Μια νύχτα στη Χωματερή - a children's story written by Kostas Magos and illustrated by Andreas Georgiadis.
- Mikri Patrida - Μικρή Πατρίδα - songs by Paraskevas Karasoulos and illustrations by Andreas Georgiadis.
- I Stixi Ton Imeron - Η στίξη των ημερών - 45 haiku by Paraskevas Karasoulos and illustrations by Andreas Georgiadis.
- Manos Hadjidakis - a diary in collaboration with Sirius record label.
- Lexeis Gramenes Stin Ammo - Λέξεις γραμμένες στην άμμο από έναν αθώο - poems by Gaston Bacero, translated by Eleni Haratsi.
- I Thlipsi Tou Somatos - Η θλίψη του σώματος - poetic essays by Stella Vlachogianni.
- Michelangelo Merizi da Caravaggio - Μικελάντζελο Μερίζι ντα Καραβάτζο - a biography written by Helen Langdon and translated by Spiros Tsougos.
- Ta Soneta Tou Skoteinou Erota - Τα Σονέτα του Σκοτεινού Έρωτα - poems of Federico Garcia Lorca, translated by Sotiris Trivizas, illustrated by Lorca's own etchings. This book is accompanied by a CD recording of 5 of Lorca's poems, produced also by Mikri Arktos.
- Arthur Rimbaud - Αρθούρος Ρεμπώ - a biography written by Graham Robb, translated by Ino Rozou and edited by Spiros Tsougos.
- Iatreion Asmaton - Ιατρείον Ασμάτων - extracts of a radio programme produced by the Greek state radio station and executive producer Stella Vlachogianni.
- Dentra Thalassis Aneplekontan - Δέντρα θαλάσσης ανεπλέκονταν - poetic essays by Aggela Apostolopoulou.
- Guernica - Γκερνίκα - a biography of the art symbol written by Gijs Van Hensbergen, translated by Adonis Samson and edited by Giota Karagianni.
- Skiagrafontas Ton Dionisio Solomo - Σκιαγραφώντας το Διονύσιο Σολωμό - an art book coming out of an exhibition celebrating Greece's poet laureat, Solomos, in collaboration with Moshandreou art-gallery and the curator Iris Kritikou. Original text (in Italian) by Nikolaos Mantzaros, translated and editted by Vassilis Rouvalis.
[edit] National Auditions
Due to the need of the rising music artists (composers, lyricists, singers, song-writers) to get support and have their work known to the public, Mikri Arktos has established the event of National Auditions. The Auditions are well-publicised and advertised, are open to new artists from all over Greece and, the finalists record their work in a CD which is produced by Mikri Arktos.
To date, the company has carried out two National Auditions, has produced the Proti Akroasi and Defteri Akroasi CDs respectively and, is preparing the third National Audition.
Mikri Arktos feels committed towards the new artists who have worked for the label and is intended to continue the line of support it provides and to further the development of their music.
[edit] Collaboration
Mikri Arktos has teamed up with ECM (record label) ("the most important imprint in the world for jazz and new music") to work together in Greece on music and cultural events. This has given new opportunities to the Greek artists of ECM, Eleni Karaindrou, Savina Yannatou, Vassilis Tsabropoulos, Leonidas Kavakos, and, many others, who will have a chance to work closely with the company so as to further the cultural database of Greece.
Hand in hand with its own productions, Mikri Arktos has carried out numerous cultural events ranging from an art exhibition on works dedicated to the poet laureate of Greece, Dionisios Solomos titled Silhouetting Dionisios Solomos to musical performances of The wind Blows Differently Here.
Paraskevas Karasoulos is the Art Director in the celebrated Ymittos Festival at the stupendous Quarry Theatre (taken its name by the natural rock where it is set) where acclaimed Greek and international artists come along every summer to share with their staunch audience music, poems and various cultural events.

Mikri Arktos started the first Greek cultural magazine on the internet www.hridanos.gr that went online in July 2005. It aims to suggest, point out, comment and analyse the cultural happenings in Greece.
It evolves around all the artistic genre and endeavours to be the most spirited journalist "vehicle" on the internet. The pictorial and design experience of Mikri Arktos has given the magazine an inimitable style that enhances the cultural awareness the magazine stands for.
It is read weekly by over 12,000 users and has steadfast allies and a dedicated staff team which keeps at the forefront of the cultural and artistic activities.

Mikri Arktos has found a powerful ally in the artist Andreas Georgiadis. He has managed to create a unique style which travels with each and every production of the company.
The designs of the CD and of the book covers are his creation in consultation with the artist. In addition, he oversees all steps of production - many of which are either hand-made or tailor made for each publication.

The label is also a distribution agent for its own recordings and is acting as the distribution agent for ECM for Greece and Cyprus.
