[edit] GA on hold: Notes to fix

As a whole, the article is well written, well referenced, and broad in its coverage. The image appears to comply with image policies. See WP:WIAGA for full list of criteria. However, I am putting this article on hold for 7 days pending a few minor fixes:

  • Referencing:
    • The first paragraph in Background is unreferenced.
  • Coverage
    • Per criteria 3 (a)(broad coverage): it mentions his work in Iran Contra, but does not go further. Seems to beg some expansion for the sake of full coverage.
    • Per criteria 3 (b)(excessive trivia): the "quotes" section probably ventures into trivia. I have no doubt that Mr. Wolfson said these things. That it is noteworthy that he said them is questionable without external verification; i.e. some OTHER reliable source considers them "important quotes". I would recommend losing the whole section. Quotes that are within a vital part of the article, and which show context and help to felsh out part of the article are OK; a "quotes" section is somewhat pretentious and somewhat trivial.
  • Formatting
    • While the referencing is good, some references are solely http links. Consider providing full bibliographic information for all references, including:
      • Author (if availible)
      • Title of article
      • Title of larger work (if applicable)
      • Publication information
      • Date of access (for web content)
    • Templates exist to help organize this information. See WP:CITET if you wish to use these.
    • Also, consider using the <ref name=> tag to multireference. It condenses multiple citations to the same reference number. This helps avoid the numerous "ibid." and "see above" in the references list, and improved readability. To use this tag, replace the first <ref> tag with <ref name=XXXX> in any entry, where XXXX can be any keyword. Then, whenever you want to cite the same reference again, use <ref name=XXXX/> (note the slash) in the place of a full reference. Ed Sabol is a short article I have worked on and used this method. See that article for an example of how this works.

That is it. This hold will remain in place for 7 days. If the fixes are made, I will promote this article to GA status. If they cannot be made in 7 days, I will have to fail the article for now; but please feel free to improve the article whenever you can and renominate it for a second consideration. If you have any further questions, see me at my talk page. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 00:11, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Improvements made per above

  1. Removed quotes section. --David Shankbone 03:04, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA Failed

The article has been on hold longer than the 7 day maximum. Unfortunately, all concerns have not been fixed. However, it looks like the article is improving, and can and should be renominated when it is complete. I have struck through the parts above that have been fixed. Please make the other fixes and then renominate. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 04:34, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:WhyMarriageMatters.jpg

Image:WhyMarriageMatters.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
