Eutectic salts are mixtures of salts that melt at low tempuratures absorbing a lot of heat. The energy absorbed (and released when they freeze) is due to heat of fusion. They are engineered for and used in thermal energy storage systems, in particular those based on phase change materials. Glaubers Salt is an example; but there are many.
