User:Eustress

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Greetings!
My (user) name is Eustress and I appreciate your visit. I am full-time doctoral student living in the United States of America. I have previous web-editing experience, but Wikipedia is its own wonderfully complex world, so if I do something "Wikipedially" wrong, please give me a gentle reprimand. I love Wikipedia and want to make it the best it can be!

I joined Wikipedia on November 10, 2007. I decided to register with Wikipedia because some of my anonymous edits kept being deleted and my IP address blocked (and probably with good reason), so I decided I wanted to take a look behind the scenes. Since then, I have developed a great love and appreciation for the Wikipedia community for its (mostly) selfless collaborative pursuit of truth (and, I might add, I have never been blocked since). I was also motivated to edit Wikipedia because I really enjoy learning new things, and I believe that you learn best when you have to research something and then somehow report it. I am in front of a computer frequently throughout the day, so Wikipedia is a very fun, enlightening, and convenient hobby.

My major mainspace contributions to Wikipedia so far include heavy editing to articles (in alphabetical order) related to businesses, medicinal practices, people, religions, and universities—all personal interests. But every once in a while I do a random article search or just follow different links to spice things up and broaden my horizons.

[edit] Origin of Eustress

The word eustress is a combination of the Greek prefix eu meaning either "well" or "good" and the English word "stress". It literally means "good stress", and it is formally defined as stress that is healthy and produces a feeling of fulfillment. I chose eustress as my username because I feel that I have a lot of it in my life, and, good or not, stress is stress, and editing on Wikipedia is a way for me to take a break from normal life and do something meaningful (and, I'd add, learn a lot from other people like you)—so the name seemed like a good fit!
